Where to watch early morning WorldCup Soccer downtown

With the WorldCup starting tomorrow, I was hoping to watch some early morning games somewhere downtown (So I can be at work shortly after the game ends).
I know of Fado opening at 6:00 am. Anyone know of any other places to watch?

Duppie - I almost hesitate to recommend this place (I'd like others to chime in please) but Fado
(the "authentic" Irish Pub has all the games, IIRC).

I have mixed feelings about the place - I went there a lot when it first opened (I used to work in
the merchandise mart), but then it changed.

there is another (better IMHO) Irish pub nearby - celtic crossings, 751 N Clark that is better.
one of the bartenders has a striking resemblence to the 80's version of Phil Collins - brouge and all.

Hi Dan, I was actually thinking about riding down to Fado for my first time and I have heard of people not really liking this fake franchise Irish pub. Anything I should look out for or just stay clear of?

The South African consulate is having a world cup viewing party in Daley Plaza from 8:30 till 5 on the 11th and 12th . It might be worth a try especially since it's free.

Up North there is always The Globe, which will probably be mobbed.....was thinking about going there. OR - maybe we an get Archies to open early?

Duppie, I know this isn't downtown, but for other folks who may be reading this thread, I would recommend Small Bar in Logan Square. They are showing all 64 of the televised World Cup games and it's a great bar.

Theory Bar and Grill, 9 W. Hubbard is also showing the game on Friday morning.

Another Northside bar is Ginger's Ale House on Ashland that will be open for the games. USA-ENGLAND game is a ticketed event there so I'd plan for that.

Eight years ago, I watched some weekday morning games at one of the Elephant and Castles.

(reads thread) Wait, are you serious that the South African consulate is having a cup-watching party in Daley Plaza? That'd be amazing. Though somewhat odd in that the Channel 5 live tv screen is across the street from DP, and this is being broadcast by ESPN/ABC (so Ch. 7 is the affiliate.)

Are they setting up a portable jumbotron? Or what would we watch on? I'd love the atmosphere of a huge public viewing, but I'm a fan -- I want to be able to see too. Wow, watching Mexico open the Cup on Daley Plaza - this country is changing.

The webpage mentions a giant screen so they're probably setting up a portable jumbotron. I'd love to be able to check out the game there but I'm out of town this weekend. Maybe the consulate will do it again if SA gets out of it's group.

What time is the US game Saturday? I know I could do the simple math from South Africa time, but I'm being a bit lazy :))

1:30 pm.
You can combinie it with Midsommarfest in Andersonville and watch it at Charlie's
