I really like the idea of 'ghetto-camping', as long as I can come home after cocktail hour. I have no desire to ever go camping for real, I do enough tenting on Ragbrai; I'm only here for the groovy name.

vey exciting but the question is... how many of these people are just intrested in this group and how many actually will GO camping with us? still even if 1/2 the people went that would be AMAZING!

look at all the members already!!! this puts a huge smile on my face.. we were just talking yesterday about how hard it was to pull a group together for camping trips we did last year.

FatTireFool, The Wenzel tent I posted about kept me completely dry in a very bad rain storm, but the ventilation is not great for really hot summer camping. Also, the screen on the mesh is not as fine as some so depending on the size of the bugs where you are it may not be the best.....on the other hand it is lightweight, very small when folded, and very inexpensive.

DATES ARE POSTED...5/22 and 5/23, due to popular availability.

Also, we are considering a 'ghettocamping' nite...somtime in april or early may...basically have a camping nite in our back yard, and largely a 'gear check' event...if you have a new tent, figure out how to put it together, try your fancy new cooking gear (we would grill also), make sure your air mattress has no leaks...that kinda shit. would some of yall be interested?

I got my sleeping bag at Cabalas. It was much more reasonable than REI. If anyone really needs a sleeping bag for a trip, I do have an extra, kind of lightweight one. It's not super bulky, it isn't tiny either. I've taken it camping a few times and it does work.

Also, discussion for individual rides is in the discussion area above.

@ sam.. check out the poll.. third weekend of may is out mostly. (selfishly) but we are all still trying to figure it out.. it will probably mothers day weekend or the 4th weekend.
Ladies needing sleeping bags.... I went to REI last weekend to check out their bags.. nice but FUKIN PRICEY!!!!!!!!!! So I was looking at Campmor site: http://www.campmor.com/. Pretty decent prices on there.. I am 90% sure I will purchase one from there to replace my bulky current sleeping bag.

forgive me, i've been out of the loop. is there a thread somewhere that pertains to a certain trip, or are we throwing it all in here? Is this accurate: 3rd week in may, IL beach state park? is anyone meeting up in advance of this trip? Sorry to be a pain, thanks in advance!
