The Chainlink

We're gearing up for the May 15th Solar Schools Ride and we want to hear from you! Are you coming? Do you need any support from us?

We just started our Chainlink group and we're excited to generate energy and enthusiasm for what promises to be a great ride: the May 15 Solar Schools Ride. Become a friend!

While there are 4, 10, and 20 mile routes, we think that the Dunes to Downtown Metric Century will be the best ride for this crew. We will be starting in the beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park, riding 62 miles through marsh, woods, meadows, and forest, and joining the rest of the riders in the afternoon festival at DuSable Harbor (the north end of Grant Park).

The shorter distances are intended for kids (the 4 mile), or casual riders who want to start at DuSable Harbor, take a scenic tour along the Lakeshore Path, and join the festivities in the afternoon at the ride's end.

Last year's schools have either already received their solar panels, or will have them by the ride. It's amazing how quickly we are able to make an impact when the community gathers!

1. Your "or visit us at..." link is busted. Your closing angle bracket got included in the URL.

2. I suppose it is too late to move the starting time or ending time? If I did it (and it is penciled in on my calendar) I'd want to ride to the starting point. That means leaving my house by five AM on a Saturday morning. I'd like to think I could pull such a thing off, but honestly, I don't have a lot faith that I could get up early enough to do it.
Hi Tony,

Thanks for putting the ride on your calendar! To address your question about getting to the Indiana Dunes starting point...

We are ironing out the transportation details, but we are working on three options. First, some riders are heading to the Dunes on Friday and camping/hoteling overnight. We're going to reserve campsites and get more details to you soon. Second, we'd like to offer an option for riders to catch a ride with us on Friday evening so that those that don't want to ride on Friday can still wake up in Indiana on Saturday. Third, we are also working on transportation the morning-of, on Saturday, so that you and your bike can catch an early-morning drive to the Dunes and meet us at the start.

I recommend visiting our website with some regularity because you'll need to make a reservation to be sure that the seats don't run out. Like I said, we'll have more definite details in the coming weeks, but rest assured, we want to support you in the metric century in any way we can. If you have any more specific questions, be sure to contact us at info@climatecycle.org - thanks again and see you on the ride!

Looking forward to the ride! My team and I are planning on riding out Friday and camping. I wasnt aware that the Climate Cycle team was reserving campsites. Should we hold off on making our own campsite reservations?

Thanks!
Hi Elliot,

We'd be happy to include your team in our reserved block of campsites. Actually, we can take this discussion off-line to talk about how many riders you expect and if we can accommodate you. We look forward to seeing you on the ride!
