As TyK bicycle pin-up season approaches thought I would share this Richard Avedon photograph of Marilyn Monroe posing as Lillian Russell on a bicycle.

In case i was not the only one who did not know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillian_Russell
What do you think she is thinking as Marilyn Monroe and/or Lillian Russell ?
Gorgeous!

It looks like the bike could be a Hawthorne Flyer?

You say Pin-up, I think Gil Elvgren...

Photo, then illustration...

Good detective work! The only improvement (bike-wise) in the Marilyn photograph would be the inclusion of that decorative chain guard. Perhaps a fixie conversion was done decades ago.

Bike? There is a bike in that picture?
That is a cool looking rear fender.

I spotted the chain-wheel, but what was I doing looking down there?

i hate to hate on such a beautiful scene, but the pose is a little befuddling. who chopped off her arm and put her leg in such an awkward, illogical place? she seems to not understand the "pedal" concept. and who forgot to fill the tires? it's disgraceful to show marilyn with such a saggy rear!
Lauren is on to something. We have been considering this a picture of Marilyn Monroe (as Lillian Russell) when in fact it could be a new design for a public bicycle stand. Imagine if instead of the black "S" shape bicycle locking tubes on our streets, we had Marilyn stands (and seat warmers) or Brad Pitts. Perhaps we would see more commuters.
