The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Kindly f*ck off, a**wipe.

Welp, I appreciate the posts of Argonne69 and I get where he's coming from. These posts launched articles, Bike Lane Uprising, etc. because they prove how willing we are to help guide change.

CLP, your snark and trolling isn't helpful to that point (and you tend to be the lone dissenter).

Agreed on language, I do ask for a certain amount of civility. Argonne69, when CLP does his troll thing, lacking support to his fellow cyclist community members, I like to post a pic or animated pic of a troll. I don't consider that name-calling, at least in this context. It gets it out of my system then I focus on what really matters and (hint) it's not what a troll has to say that was formulated to get a rise out of me and lacks in helpful or factual information.

Facts? At the end of the day, our earth is in a climate crisis and bikes do help. We need safe accommodations and that's a fact. PBLs are safe accommodations because as the troll pointed out, drivers don't care, in fact, they are hostile so the way we can address this is to have safety barriers so that they can't physically reach us as they swerve in their texting/smart phone surfing clouds which is a HUGE safety issue. And the fact of the matter is, PBLs bring more cyclists. Get people out of cars. Less car traffic, safer pedestrians, safer cyclists. That's a trend we all can get behind. So thank you for pointing out the ridiculous. People do this on Twitter all the time so why not on a bike community forum? (not looking for an answer from you CLP troll).

I do appreciate your reporting of all these violations but I also tend to agree with clp on your response.

I think it's all more complicated than this I believe.  Reporting to the company is a good idea, the city/CDOT capabilities and interests are a different matter.  The problem too is the indifference of the drivers.  However in their experience, there isn't much some cyclists offer them as a good example.  Next time we're at an intersection or a one way street sign, what by our conduct should we convey to the Uber drivers about whether or not we care about people following the rules of the road?  On an aggregate basis, this is what sets the tone.  Is there a frustration about the Uber driver in the bike lane such that we want some enforcement of all of the rules of the road for everybody, or do we just want enforcement of certain things for certain people in certain modes of transit, but not others?

'Sorry. Next time I'll certainly replay, "F*ck off, Troll". CLP provides no value whatsoever to this thread. The purpose of the thread is to "share pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the like lane that impacts your ride". I've done that in spades. CLP provides nothing. Zip. Nada. 100% pure trolling.

If you can refrain from the "ef off" part, we have a deal. It's just a matter of being more civil. I hear you and understand your frustration and feel similarly about the trolling comments - I don't think it's helpful.

On a good note, what you are providing is available for google to serve on a search. That is valuable.

Actually, my days here are numbered. I'll be retiring in early November, and riding off into the sunset. I'll hang up my safety yellow for more neutral colors, i.e. khaki and navy blue, spending my time golfing and visiting national parks, rather than dodging Uber drivers and doorings.

That means this thread will fall back and go for a long sleep :(

That's fantastic. Start a new thread with your adventures. That sounds like way more fun.

Hopefully someone will pick up your torch. You are appreciated.

I'm guessing I could attach (backwards) my 3 wheel ClicGear pushcart to my bike, and lug my full cart bag to the range. It's no wider than a typical dog trailer.

225 N Franklin St. 311 report submitted.

In addition to the fine provided in Section 9-4-025 of this Code, any vehicle parked in violation of this section shall be subject to an immediate tow and removal to a city vehicle pound or authorized garage.

If we do hybridize the thread, one variation for company or delivery vehicles could be:

-Here's what I saw (pic)

-Here's where it was

-Here's the number I called / email address I sent the info

-Here's who I spoke with

or info the contact info wasn't known, we could use the thread to inquire "Does anybody know how to reach xyz company/organization to report this or that?"
