That's good news!

His wife, Amy Rule must think so also. She smiled even more broadly during the announcement when he said the words that he will no longer run. Watch the video.

Now the flyover will never be finished. It'll be an interesting election, now.

Agreed.

Could we talk Gabe Klein into coming back to Chicago to run for mayor?

Great guy.

Rahm isn't personable (to say the least), but I don't think he was the worst mayor ever.  He took over a city that the Daleys had ruined financially through their cronyism and utter failure to fund their generations-long contract and pension giveaways.  Rahm did attempt to address those issues, and was willing to take the heat for all of the property tax increases and nickle-and-dime bloodletting he deemed necessary to do so.  A major thing about him I didn't like was when he allowed the Laquan McDonald video to be suppressed until after the last election, simply because he knew he'd lose if it were released earlier.  That one is on him.

I have to say that as a bike rider, I appreciate that Rahm did support cycling and did move the agenda forward.  I see a lot more bike lanes and infrastructure than I did when he became mayor, although still not nearly enough, and I will give him some props for that.  I hope the next mayor keeps the ball rolling.  I'm sure some more candidates will be scuttling out of the woodwork now that Rahm is stepping down.  It's going to be wild.

Good points Jim, I agree.

I wish Toni Preckwinkle would run. We can't call Chicago a world class city when large parts of it suffer through the indigities we've endured for far too long.  That, and the poor state of our local and state finances, largely due to the corruption and cronyism of our elected officials. I believe these are the principal qualms Amazon has about choosing Chicago as their next major office center.

I wish Obama would focus a little more on these issues instead of his presidential library. We gave that man his launching pad. He owes us. Maybe he should run for major. Maybe Rahmbo wants to run for president. If Trump can get elected president, anything's possible.

Toni Taxwinkle? Do you want even more taxes in Chicago?  Include me out.

You'll get your wish.  There's no doubt in my mind that Preckwinkle will run.  There's also no doubt in my mind that if she runs, she'll win.
