Does anyone here know if there is a record for doing the GIT?

What is that?

The Illinois Grand Trail.

It's a 500+ loop around northern IL:

And I realized that it’s GIT and not IGT. I’ve updated the post to help reflect that.

Why, please, would anyone even want to ride a trail for time? It's not like anyone should be in a hurry. If one has all day to get to the finish, why spoil it by arriving early? Where would be the enjoyment in that?

But then again, why not?

I understand that touring is one thing, but challenging yourself on an ultra endurance self supported ride is another. And if this route allows people to attempt such a feat then might as well try.

It is no different than the AZT, or the Coconino 250, even the tour divide. All of those are epic routes, but having the option to set a benchmark then why not try? And maybe you learn a little bit about yourself and the world around you in the process.

Because different people like different things and have different goals...

There's about to be.
