The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I like that game and its variant, "kick-a-sign."

Just don't play Kick-a-car because the driver has a 50/50 of going nuclear on you.

I attended the hearing this morning for the taxi driver who threatened me after I had taken his photo illegally parked in the bike lane on north Franklin St. The driver agreed to plead guilty to two of the five charges, pay $100 fine, and attend an 8 hour class. I spoke with the city's attorney before the hearing, and I thought it was a reasonable deal. Had it gone to trial there's no guarantee that any of the charges would have stuck, as it was basically my word against his. With the deal, at least the driver gets to pay some fine, has the charges on his record, and gets to waste a day in class. On top of that he had to spend two days coming to court, and had to hire an attorney. I'd say that some level of justice was served. My main focus was on ensuring that some $$$ came out of his pocket.

On the way to the courthouse I took 5 photos of vehicles illegally parked in the bike lane on Franklin St. Sigh. I'll post them later. The battle continues.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
