The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Incidentally, the alderpeople definitely have the power to put an end to this if they were so inclined. To illustrate:

Neighbors have complained since at least 2015 of limo and taxi drivers stopping on the side of the entrance ramp to beckon passengers....Arena was returning from his meeting, he saw the same cars parked on the ramp, he said. He again asked them to leave, and again Alvarez refused. "I told him, 'OK, this is going to be a bad day for you,'" Arena said. Arena called the commander of the Albany Park Police District, and officers came to arrest the man.

Granted, it took a lot of illegal behavior before this alderman stepped up, but note that he has the power to call the district commander directly and get an immediate police response. In other words, if you have trouble spots in your neighborhood, contact your alderman.

Every single freakin' day. *sigh*

I was running a bit late for work this morning, so I didn't stop to take pics of the three vehicles illegally parked in the right (bike) lane on south Wells St. I did submit a 311 report however.

Watch out for roofing nails near the Theater On The Lake (Lake front trail and Fullerton). Yesterday I rolled over one and it was a direct hit. I will say the view was nice while I fixed my flat. Thanks fellow cyclists that where offering help as they passed by. :-)
