The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

225 N Franklin St. 311 report submitted. I'm considering filing a police report. The driver followed me for nearly a mile, driving along side me and screaming out his open passenger window. I made several turns, and he continued to follow me. Near Kingsbury and Erie he was filming me with his smartphone. I yelled that I was going to call 911, and he turned east on Erie.

I filed a separate police report for assault.  Following a cyclist a few inches from the bike for nearly a mile, and verbally harassing the rider is stepping over the line. I would say it borders on aggravated assault, given that the driver was using his vehicle in a threatening manner.

I also filed a separate 311 report (Cab Feedback). Hopefully the city will take some action against the driver.

Lastly, I filed a 311 report (Bike Lane) asking that the bike lane on Franklin between Lake St and Wacker Dr be repainted. It seems these taxi/uber/limo drivers can't see the fading white lines along the no parking/tow zone that stretches the entire length of Franklin between Lake and Wacker.

This is another case where I wish I had a camera mounted on my helmet.

Argonne,

Be sure to file a report here if you haven't:

BACP does follow up on these.

311 report filed

135 W Kinzie St. 311 report submitted.

520 W Harrison St. 311 reports submitted. Postal vehicles are getting pretty bad, too.

Two USPS vehicles were blocking the mouth of the Washington "protected" lane at Wacker this morning.

They did that all of the time when it first opened but must've gotten some sort of message and stopped doing it for awhile.  Now they're right back at it in full force.

Today at 11:50 AM 520 W Harrison

101 S Franklin St. 311 report submitted.
