Cx Magazine: Men Need Wednesday Night Bike Time More Than Women

This entire article should have hit the cutting room floor. Why Cx Magazine would publish an article that suggests men need Wednesday night Cyclocross practice more than women is ridiculous. Implying women don't need or enjoy activity for social connection is equally ridiculous. A few excerpts...

"Baker goes on to cite research that has studied photographs of men socializing and women socializing."

"...as Baker writes, the research seems to show that 'men need an activity together to make and keep a bond” while “women can maintain friendships over the phone.'”
Maybe next time an article like this should be based less on the "study of photographs" and more on feedback from active women about what they enjoy before jumping to conclusions. #fail

p.s. I'm a woman and I don't like talking on the phone. :-/

More, no, equally, yes. Same gender bonding is important for both sexes. For men, social, psychological and health issues do factor into their friendships as they age. Isolation from your friends over extended periods of time can cause malaise, depression and a feeling of hopelessness. Women also benefit in similar ways in bonding with their friends. We may relate differently but the effects are the same.
Maintaining connective friendships over the phone nowadays is becoming passè. It seems everyone tweets, texts or follows what their friends are doing. Having a night out together is all good and healthy for everyone when they spend time with their friends. \`!'/

I'm a man and I don't like "bonding with men".

Another reason why i don't read most cycling magazines..

The writer from cxmagazine would have done a better job with the article if he did some research and used this article as a source.
