The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Roosevelt Road and Paulina, 02/10/017 @ 11:45am

I almost got clipped by a van going around the last two a**holes. Getting really f*cking tired of this.

That's why I try to look for an opening in traffic where I can move out and "take the lane" by riding right in the middle while I pass bike-lane obstructions, then move back over.  I have to do that all the time on Harrison between the river and the expressway, in the case of passing by the darned greyhound station, the Mexican restaurant where there is almost always a truck parked during morning rush hour, and the Post Office where there are almost ALWAYS vehicles in the bike lane in both directions.

Sometimes somebody will drive over into the opposite lane to get around me but mostly they wait behind me. I almost always try to hold my hand up really high and wide to signal as I move over.  Often times people seem to understand my intentions and the reasons behind them.  Occasionally I get honks or whatever.

This guy was shaking his hand wanting to know why I took his picture. He was sitting there for quite awhile. This was on Dearborn, where he had to drive between the cones to even get there.

what kind of license plate is that that ends in PT ?

According to ChicagoCop.com, PT means "public transportation"

Two more contestants for "Life's Biggest Losers".

1850 W. Roosevelt Road - 02/14/2017 - 7am - everyday someone parks like this, all day long. There is also usually someone parked at the closer end of this picture parked at an angle as well.

Why hasn't this car been ticketed and towed? Even if there were no bike lane, it is illegally and dangerously parked.

Update - that car hasn't moved - 02/14/2017 @ 12:05pm

1851 W. Ogden - Medical District CTA stop - 02/14/2017 - 6:55am

1747 W. Roosevelt - 02/14/2017 @ 11:35am - Favorite drop-off/pick-up spot for Uber/Lyft; FedEx and UPS like this spot as well.
