The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I'm usually patient and tolerant, and I'll ride out into the traffic lane to pass a truck or taxi loading or unloading, but this floored me!  A United States Post Office bus in the PROTECTED bike lane on Clybourn Avenue - southbound around 1500 Clybourn.

It started to back up!  I tried waving along side the truck and people on the sidewalk were trying to get the attention of the driver.  She slightly backed into me, got out (on the right side, so maybe this was a post-office truck with the driving side on the right, not left.  She said she was new to the area, had never had this route, and was trying to find an address.

OMG!!!!!!! I know these are newer to the city, but it begs the question of how much signage/lane marking etc is needed to get drivers to comprehend that these lanes are not for motor vehicles....

Here are some that should be idiot proof.

That is just ridiculous.

Landscaping truck & trailer in the sb Elston bike lane just south of Division this morning. This location is very hazardous as the traffic lanes are narrow, so not a ton of room when you have to pop out of the bike lane. I tweeted the company but no response so far.

Big piles of leaves and plant materials in the Sheridan bike lanes in the north suburbs.

then contact the municipality to get them removed

Unattended vehicle parked in the bike lane on Franklin near Randolph.  No flashers on.

Maybe a proud union laborer?  :-)

Voting is important.  Endless news about voting?  Not so much.

Just sittin' there.

Coca-Cola unloading in the bicycle lane.

Why couldn't this happen in that wide open parking spot?

5255 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL

Similar situation next to Dunkin Donuts on Milwaukee @Chicago last night. Wide open spots a couple of feet ahead of the truck. I don't even bother calling those in to CPD. Because, you know, business > safety.
