The Chainlink

You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

To the ten bike commuters who ran the red light on Milwaukee at Hubbard last night around 5:40 pm:

I watched and counted as each of you ran the red light. Some of you stopped, then went through; some rolled through slowly; and some blew through at 18+ mph. Two of us - myself and another cyclist - waited for the light to turn green.

Who do you think the drivers in the lane next to us, or across the street, remember - the two of us who waited, or the ten who ran the light? Your actions reflect on all of us and impact the conversation around bicycling in the city. Is it really worth not waiting the 30-40 seconds for the light to change???

I see this every single day commuting in the city. Many are Divvyists, but many are not. It is so rare that I see a cyclist waiting for the green when cars are present that I'm tempted to compliment him or her. I consider this to be the "glass ceiling" for cycling as widely acceptable transportation. Until we as a group act like traffic, we will not be considered legitimate road users by many motorists... to our detriment.

To the Gentleman who was too impatient to allow the high school kids to cross the street despite the fact that I hand-signaled a stop - What I said this morning still applies you are an Asshole. You are near 2 schools and the kids were in the cross walk! You by law are to stop, not race in front of them.

I hope you are on here. I hope you get your shit together. If you have any question, I have the full video 1080p and audio for your review

On Tuesday 10/18, at approximately 530pm this van passed far to close on westbound Winnemac. Then doubled down on stupid by accelerating through a stop sign (i assume to put distance between us). What the driver didn't count on was when they reached Damen they got stuck in normal traffic. I caught up and snapped this pic. I have written RR Donnelley via their contact us and i'm posting here. Feel free to share. There have been too many injuries and fatalities for cyclists and i'm not aiming to be the next one. This driver can learn to be better or try a career where they aren't in charge of several tons of moving metal.

To the jerk turning left from NB Elston on to Kedzie this morning: you can flip me off and honk all you like, but when we both have the green light and I am proceeding straight, I have the right of way, as I loudly explained to you.

Drivers like you who have no clue of the rules of the road should not be on the road.

I've had a great many things shouted at me when riding in Chicago. People yell, drivers yell, drunk pedestrians push me, drivers threaten to kill me, and sometimes even act on that threat. But today, on my way to work, I rolled through a stop sign in streeterville just after a tiny, very old woman had crossed. There was no traffic. And I heard this small voice crackle, "Nice stop... jackass." Of all the things, that one hurt. I'm sorry I disappointed you, tiny old woman.

That was a very close call on the laughing-coffee-keyboard front, I am guessing we've all gotten that perfectly sarcastic scolding that only a senior citizen can properly deliver.

Man, two in one day! To the silver minivan parked in the bike land on Milwaukee near Armitage - I know you're mad that I knocked on your window as I went past. I understand that it scared you and you jumped, and that probably damaged your manly ego. But trying to throw a full big gulp of soda at me (with ice) was the wrong move because you missed and now you're out $2.75 of soda.

I sincerely hope you don't try to take out your anger on anyone else. If you want to try again, I ride by the same place at the same time every weekday +/-5min.

Wow. A Big Gulp? More like a big splash. Glad it missed you. Hope tomorrow is better! :-)

I kinda deserved it. :/

I usually do. You win some, you lose some.
