The Chicago Tribune published another anti-bike piece in less than a week? Shocking.

"There bikers get their green-painted lane of pavement along the north curb; the line of parked cars gets moved out into the street; and motorized traffic gets squeezed into the middle. God forbid you should make a right turn without first checking if a biker is pedaling up behind that row of parked cars."

McCarron - a man who was probably born with his head up his entitled *$$.

All around swell guy, Luke Seemann, lending a hand to his peers that may still be struggling to write their own anti-bike piece.

Brilliant!

Brilliant!

I haven't done Mad Libs in ages!

Oh, my... another entitled motorist suffering from First World Problems.

Anyone old enough to remember the Chicago Tribune of Yore ought not be surprised. It's in its DNA to be reactionary and retrograde.

Yup ! 'Bikers' and their 'darned bike lanes', they don't pay? !
This must be one of those Tribune 'accidents'.
And you're an urban consultant, teacher and writer? Sheesh !
Sounded to me like he didn't even want to look before he started the turn! Streetsblog has a good take on this and I appreciated Reno's reply on the other thread. (Sorry no links- mobile device noob here.) One streetsblog commentor suggested compiling an encyclopedia of rebuttals for easy reference... Any interest in hosting such a thing, Yasmeen?
Jim Reho! Sorry, this weird Apple suggest-a-word!
:P

Thanks for sharing. He's pretty great at pointing out the ridiculous "logic" of the anti-cyclist rants. He nailed it. Good to see Chicago's news (and the Chicago Magazine bike rant tool) made it on Bike Snob NYC's radar.

Lately, I've been seeing a new-ish troll argument - only fit, rich people that don't have kids can ride a bike.

There's a bike for that!
1. Inexpensive new and used bikes. Most cyclists aren't rich and biking can be less costly than cars and public transportation.

2. Bikes are good for your health. People get fit because they ride their bike.

3. Parents ride bikes too. Moms and dads can take their kids to school on a bike.

I've taken many a friend down to working bikes and they've always been able to find something good they can afford. Places like that and the recyclery go a long way towards making cycling affordable.
