Saw this one on the Wisconsin Bike Fed blog:

Unlike other incidents I've seen reported, this one appears to involve people who likely knew each other. The two were coworkers, both working for WS Packaging Solutions in Algoma, WI.

it looks like it was just north of Elston, right before all the construction on Milwaukee.

A later report identified the victim as Lisa Kuivinen, age 20.

Social media comments on these stories are always sickening.  They're particularly bad in this case, where the bike-hating driver-apologists ignore that the victim was run down mid-block inside the bike lane.

Yes, I saw a lot of the comments and had to stop reading. It is pretty disgusting.

I tend not to spend much time on individual crashes (there are far too many to dig deep most of the time). Still, I'm not sure I'd want to read the comments on any of the articles. It would be nice if for cases like this that the site owners actually moderated the comment postings.

DNAInfo article updated:
"He has been issued two tickets, police said: one for driving in a bike lane, and one for failure to take due care with a bicyclist."

Can someone with more experience on the legal side of things comment? These tickets seem like an awfully small consequence for running someone over with (in this case) a semi. No felony charges? Are involuntary manslaughter charges appropriate in cases like this?

On this page, I read:

A person commits reckless homicide if he or she unintentionally kills an individual while driving a motor vehicle or operating a snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle, or watercraft.

Seems like it should apply.

I started a new thread for this topic. I think it's worth discussing in a larger context:

Were there two accident spots on Milwaukee then? According to DNA, the construction site shown is at the foot of Elston. Where I saw the ambulance was down near the last bridge, south of Ogden. Down by where they are working on the El track grates.

The tickets the driver was initially issued are the no-brainer tickets. I'd hope CPD is investigating further. A reckless driving charge, which would be the predicate for any type of aggravated reckless driving felony charge, isn't going to be made over night and would involve in out from the state's attorney in almost every instance.

Thanks for the explanation.
