Giro's "Trade-up" Helmet Program - Trade in for a Safer Helmet

For a limited time, you can trade your helmet in for a discount on a new Giro MIPS-equipped helmet. MIPS is "Multi-directional Impact Protection System".

Giro Sport Design has announced a helmet trade-in program for consumers through their independent local authorized retailers. Beginning August 5 and continuing through October 31, consumers may bring in their current helmet to a local Giro retailer and exchange it for a 25% discount on select 2016 Giro cycling helmets equipped with the MIPS Multi-directional Impact Protection System.

“We really believe in MIPS. Laboratory testing shows that MIPS may redirect energy and offer an additional measure of protection in certain impacts,” said Dain Zaffke, Giro Marketing Director. “But we know that many consumers purchased helmets before MIPS technology was widely available or affordable. By partnering with our local dealers, we are able to offer this 25% discount to help their loyal customers make the step up to a new helmet with MIPS technology.”

KEY POINTS OF THE PROGRAM:

• Promotion is effective August 5 – October 31, 2016
• Consumer brings in old helmet to participating local dealer
• In exchange for the old helmet, Consumer receives 25% discount at the time of trade-in on selected Giro 2016 MIPS
  models at point of sale
• Program does not include early-release 2017 model year models
• Dealer participation is not mandatory

nice!

This is a great program, but I haven't seen many MIPS helmets in the stores even when they are Giro dealers.

We stock the Giro Sutton MIPS right now and can get most of their other MIPS helmets on special order within a couple days.

There really hasn't been a big demand for MIPS, so I am not surprised that you haven't seen many at shops.  With the prices starting to come down now more and more, its likely you will see stores stocking MIPS helmets in place of some of the regular models.

Thanks for the update Nate! I need to bring my old Giro in for a trade. This is a great idea - to help people upgrade to a more protective model.

Thanks for the info!

I remember seeing a MIPS display at REI on Halsted earlier this year and they show up on the store locator, but that doesn't mean they're honoring the promotion. They would probably have a good inventory to start looking.

I also see Johnny Sprockets on Bryn Mawr seems to be a dealer!
