Around mid day today I started hearing around my office how miserable the weather would be this evening once the snow started. Lots of sighs and swearing about Chicago weather.I was having drinks…Continue

Coming home last night @10 pm from River North I almost decided to take Dearborn (North) but decided at the last minute to jump on the LFP at Oak. Turned out to be a brisk but beautiful ride home on…Continue

Anybody know a good source of weather forecasts for LFT?

I ride everyday from Wilson to Grand on the LFT.  I'll stay off the path if it's really windy, particularly coming home at night.  Not thrilled about riding into the wind.  And over or under dressing…Continue

"The issue is the racist behavior of the Chicago Police Department (and this covers many areas), but for this conversation we are about the how the largest group of bikers are on the north side of Chicago, however the greatest amount of tickets were…"

"I agree there is a discrimination issue regarding enforcement. But that's a much larger issue and not one that is going to be fixed by allowing adults to ride on the sidewalk. People who say they ride on the sidewalk due to feeling unsafe,…"

"I respectfully disagree.  There is no question that uncivil behavior by motorists is a problem but I do not see it as part of this conversation.  This a a black/white issue not a car/bike issue.  You mentioned,  "You can…"

Carter O'Brien replied to Josh L.'s discussion 'Biking while black': Chicago minority areas see the most bike tickets
"It seems to me that the root cause that needs addressing is uncivil behavior by motorists. This leads to cyclists feeling unsafe, which leads to them riding on the sidewalk. Did they study how people who have to share these sidewalks feel? If they…"

David Barish replied to Josh L.'s discussion 'Biking while black': Chicago minority areas see the most bike tickets
"I have not weighed in on this forum because I do not see this a a bike related issue. It is an issue but it is a city issue, a societal issue a black/white issue.  Bicycles are simply the means for police contact in these cases but the issue is…"

"The only time I saw a lot of whites wrong-way riding was last year on Orchard. But maybe they did that because of construction on Halsted? I'll see what happens this year when the weather warms up. Just yesterday I saw 2 wrongway riders, both…"

"They obviously think sidewalk riding is the way to ride a bike. And they are slow. Cops don't care. It's still 'breaking the law'. In the Trib news story, the guy they cited (so they could see if he had any outstanding warrants)…"

Filka Bean replied to Josh L.'s discussion 'Biking while black': Chicago minority areas see the most bike tickets
"I see a fair amount of sidewalk riding in my (west side) neighborhood, and it's usually older people who are slowly cruising, like slo-o-o-owly! To be honest, if this is these guy's max speed I'd just as soon they weren't in the…"

Anne Alt replied to Josh L.'s discussion 'Biking while black': Chicago minority areas see the most bike tickets
"There are a lot more miles of streets on the south side, so it takes a lot more miles of bike lanes to create a solid network of routes. We've made progress, but there are still a lot of gaps in that network, especially in lower density areas."

Anne Alt replied to Josh L.'s discussion 'Biking while black': Chicago minority areas see the most bike tickets
"In places where there is FAST car traffic and not a lot of traffic density, people often ride on the sidewalk because they feel that they'll get killed if they're riding out in the traffic lane with that fast traffic. People who feel…"
