Green Wave on Wells

Looks like the city's traffic engineering folks have made a major change to the timing of the lights on Wells between roughly Chicago and Kinzie. This used to be a horrible stretch, where you'd catch…Continue

Bicycle involved in an accident on Diversey?

I got to work this morning to see a text from my wife asking if I was at work yet. I called. Apparently she heard of a bad accident involving a cyclist on Diversey and was worried about me (as she…Continue

"Maybe this post doesn't belong here, but... Our son has been borrowing my old Schwinn three-speed (maybe 70s vintage?). I only used it for noodling around Evanston, most often just to shorten the trip to the Metra. It is (was) a lamentable…"

"Sorry, I was unaware of that. Though it was clearly meant as humor, there is a grain of truth in such stories. It would likely not have been written if Strava usage wasn't out of control in some area. The beltline multi-use path described in…"

"I don't understand the attraction. In fact, I'd argue it causes needless risk, at least in many urban settings. If you zoom in on Chicago in the Strava Labs heatmap, you'll see that LFT is the most heavily Strava'd route in the…"

Lisa Curcio 6.2mi replied to Skip Montanaro 12mi's discussion Green Wave on Wells
"Actually, the green wave does not start until Huron--probably because of that stop sign at Superior.  But it still does not seem to be working correctly between Erie and Ontario."

"Rich is right. It is broken as of mid last week. The light on Ontario goes red before the one on Erie turns red. It has nothing to do with the seepd of the cyclist."

"I was told that this was optimized for 12 mph and likely to be most effective if you roll right after the light turns green."

Rich S replied to Skip Montanaro 12mi's discussion Green Wave on Wells
"Not sure since I don't use a computer but guessing my rolling speed is about 12-14 mph. I do usually need to yield at the stop sign at Superior but that was the case when the timing of the lights was first adjusted. "

"maxy, super maxy, mighty competition, super mighty competition, grand mighty (75?)..any others?" that's from a bikeforums thread. it seems like there are tons of variants on 'mighty' 'grand' etc. their model names are so grandiose.
