"I opine that the easiest way would be to rock the Ashland bus up to Devon and just bike it 10-20 mins west to the trail. Or, jump on a Devon bus going west. The whole trail is only a 26 mile out and back, so starting at the south end is cool. Watch…"

North Branch Trail Access

I live in Bucktown (very near the Armitage Metra stop), and want to get to one of the trail heads for the North Branch Trail, to go cycling-- but need to use public transit. Suggestions?? Most direct route to best trail head?? Prettiest part is up north, I would bet. So, what are the trailheads up north and how do I get there?

Oh how cool! I'm from New Orleans (and I think that, by default, makes me food-crazy!) and have decided to make this my last winter here. But to work for Rick Bayless...I can TOTALLY understand moving here. That's just awesome.

As far as long rides go around town, I often just default to the lakefront Trail or head out for the more pastoral retreat of the North Branch Trail. What part of town are you in? It's only about 7.5 miles from my neighborhood (Edgewater) to the beginning of the North Branch Trail.

And I never rode with any groups while in Austin, but commuted from my place in Hyde park to Riverside, and basically scooted all up and down the city on my bike. I went on many midnight rides that left from Ozone on Guadalupe, and that was basically the extent of my "organized" riding there!

Hey hey! Welcome to Chicago. I also lived in Austin ('99-2001) and am probably going to move there back at the end of summer. What brings you to the frozen Midwest? ;-)
