Anybody know of a safe way to cross between Chicago and Evanston? Only ways I know of are Sheridan and Clark Street/Chicago Ave.Sheridan is pretty dangerous on a bike where that big curve is. Sure, I…Continue

So I doored a cyclist yesterday... :(

I was leaving Silvie's yesterday (well, not LEAVING leaving, just had to run outside to grab my amp, was there to perform), and their doors all open out. Just when I opened the door, *wham!*...right…Continue

Rear wheel true but not spinning freely!

So yeah...I noticed that my rear wheel doesn't spin freely...which really irked me because I rode my bike *once* since a recent tune-up. I don't have a truing stand, so I did the "turn the bike…Continue

"Gonna be honest -- this is the first I've heard of "bike dibs." I guess that answers my question as to why sometimes I see a bikeless lock on a rack from time to time. Geez...I've never, ever had problem finding somewhere to tie…"

David P. replied to dauber's discussion Into and out of Evanston...
"There are plenty of options. I don't find Clark/Chicago particularly bad, but if you don't like that you can take the route through Rogers Park on Juneway Terrace, etc. that puts you out between the CTA yard and the cematary, or you can…"

Into and out of Evanston...

Anybody know of a safe way to cross between Chicago and Evanston? Only ways I know of are Sheridan and Clark Street/Chicago Ave.Sheridan is pretty dangerous on a bike where that big curve is. Sure, I can get off my bike and use the sidewalk, which is easy enough to do going into Evanston, but coming back, I don't believe there's a sidewalk on the Chicago-bound side. And of course, the bike lanes on Clark Street and Chicago Avenue disappear in the parts where you need 'em the most. What do you…See More

dauber replied to Elizabeth McKinley's discussion CPD ticketing cyclists near Six Corners
"Heh...to me, if there are six corners, I call it "Six Corners" no matter what. :)  Probably because I grew up in Joliet, where there's only one such intersection and everybody calls it "Six Corners.""

About me:
I'm a lifelong Libra. Been cycling in Chicago since 2014; before then, I hadn't touched a bike since, oh....about 1987.

Oh, and I also obey traffic laws on my bike (including stop signs); DESPISE Critical Mass (although I'd be all for it if they did Critical Manners here in Chicago); sometimes drive a gas-powered car; and believe the Lakefront Trail is a PATH, not the Tour de freakin' France...can you deal?

My bike is a 2014 Trek Shift 2 hybrid; got a hybrid because I had read that a hybrid is a good choice for people who haven't been on a bike in a while. My bike's name is Syd. And if you understand why I named my bike Syd, then...well, you and I should probably go out and grab a Guinness; I'd invite my wife to join us but she doesn't like Guinness.
