Are you looking for stable housing and a way to put some of your rent money towards equity?  Want to be part of a community of great neighbors?  The HUB Co-op was started by cyclists in 2005.  We did a ton of renovation, and now it's just getting better and better.  Our sweet top-floor studio is for sale--it's beautiful and spacious, has skylights, and lots of other features.  Very motivated sellers.  If interested, contact sarahbikes@gmail.com or (312) 469-0794.Check out the details and lots…See More

"I actually did not check our zoning in order to reply, but I don't think we're zoned commercial.  The first floor is elevated somewhat, it has a normal apartment layout, and it's occupied by wonderful cycling neighbors."

"Really nice.  That south face should get a lot of sun, too.  Looks like the first floor was a store at one time.  Is it still zoned commercial? I watched the video and found it with streetview."

Bike-Friendly Housing Co-op Unit for sale, asking $4900 buy-in, $1001/mo

The HUB Housing Co-op was started in 2005 by a bunch of Chicago cyclists.  We're a fun, yet responsible group.  Sam and I are finally leaving the co-op, and our sweet studio unit is for sale.  I say "sweet" because it has a cork floor, giant soaking tub, and skylights.  The co-op is a great way to own property cooperatively (so your responsibility is less), and to live with friends.  And it's right on the boulevard, which now has a protected bike lane.Chicago magazine did a video about us! …See More

About me:
Now is the time for Chicago to build safe bike routes with no cars. Cars are designed for danger - asking drivers to please drive safely isn't the solution. Facilities that separate cars from bikes or force cars to slow down is the best way to allow cyclists to feel safe, which will encourage more people to bike! No one is going to make this change for us. Cyclists and pedestrians will keep being run down "by accident" until we say it's time for a change. Well, it's time for a change!
