"The tow was richly deserved and the driver won't be doing that again. And yes, if I wanted to get my bike in or out of there, I'd have gone out of my way to dent and scratch just to drive home the message."

Bike Bloke replied to CJ's discussion 'expensive ticket/fine from metra'
"You couldn't dodge round the cop and high tail it out of the vicinity? To get out of a $250 ticket, I'd have been tempted if the cop was on foot."

Bike Bloke replied to Melissa M's discussion 'Planning for a Friday Morning Memorial for Neill Townsend to Raise Awareness about Dooring and Sharing the Road'
"Please forgive me if someone has already said this in the current thread: Cyclist and pedestrian awareness must be an integral part of driver training and licensing. Nothing short of that is acceptable. And a state sanctioned 'look for…"

Bike Bloke replied to h' 1.0's discussion 'Sun Times: "Two Wheel Trouble."'
"Having tried both, I quickly opted to use only the service drives. That said, they are less than ideal, especially as the green lights at Sacramento and California last a lot less time than the main drag on Logan Blvd. And then I really detest that…"

Bike Bloke replied to Adam Herstein (5.5 mi)'s discussion 'Conversation with a Bike Lane Blocker'
"I'm definitely with Adam on this subject. I understand mailvans and UPS, et al, but in general there is way too much gratuitous parking/stopping in bike lanes. some of the worst of this in where there is a valet parking operation. I give you…"

"The open lakefront that we enjoy today was a component of the Burnham Plan and was largely created landfill projects in the 1910's and 1920's. Construction of Lake Shore Drive in its current configuration as a high speed road for cars…"

Serge Lubomudrov replied to Bike Bloke's discussion 'Paris to return Seine to the people with car-free riverside plan'
"Don't forget an excellent documentary by Geoffrey Baer, "Chicago Lakefront." It took a lot of effort (and litigation) to create and keep the access to the Lake open. LSD destroyed and interrupted quite a bit of that access. "

spencewine replied to Bike Bloke's discussion 'Paris to return Seine to the people with car-free riverside plan'
"If I had to guess, the only reason the lakefront we have today exists is because of LSD. Without the government buying up and clearing the land, most of that 18 miles would have been privately owned."
