It started with a flat tire.....

I had a few errands to run and it being such a nice day I decided to take out my vintage Schwinn Typhoon. Unfortunately it had a flat which ain't a big deal so I fixed it. As I was bringing it up from the basement I noticed a squeek in the headset. Hmmmm. Not a big deal on such a simple bike so I took it apart & greased it. As I was doing that I realized that the bottom bracket probably could use some work & the bike was in the stand so what the hell, I'll repack it.So here I am with a…See More

Michael, I guess it was you running on the LFT? Sorry, didn't see you: tunnel vision. Though, I have to say that if it were a group of shapely women instead of middle aged dudes, I would probably notice them ;)

I have no doubts it is, though it is still on my "to be read soon" list.

I was taking pictures there:

Gee, are there so many Michaels? . . . A had to be more specific: did you go to the David Herlihy's book event at the Cellar? And by "met" I didn't mean "introduced."

We might have met at the Wine Cellar few weeks ago, Michael.

Postscript: Hi Michael
One other thing of our previous thread that raises a question is that when I took a good look at the bike in the sunlight this afternoon one can clearly see blue paint showing through in various places on the frame and chain case. That along with the plastic fenders and no locking fork raise the question of whether this might be a parts bike salvage. This isn't anything I can't live with-I'm just wanting to establish what the bike is and to get your thought. My lbs says that he sold a lot of these bikes and there were not any plastic fenders. Did you buy it from a private party or a bike shop? Anyway, that's the latest. Jim

Michael, yeah you definitely did a great job of packing. And I appreciate your observations-I think the variation in manufacture that you mention is likely the case. I'm taking it down to the lbs next week and look forward to some good times with it. Thanks again and enjoy your weekend. Jim

Hi Michael,

Please see my earlier post re comments and questions. Also, how do we reconcile that this Superbe does not have the fork lock which is a signal item for that model? BTW, the lugs on this model are really nice. Regards. Jim
