So it's on Northerly Island this year. I remember hearing something along those lines last year, but didn't remember until I saw the promo for 2017. I took my toddler last year. It was his favorite…Continue

Tour de Fat 2017 - July 29

So it's on Northerly Island this year. I remember hearing something along those lines last year, but didn't remember until I saw the promo for 2017. I took my toddler last year. It was his favorite thing all year. He still talks about it. I loaded up our trailer, my bike, and his trike in a car share, and after we did the group ride, he rode around the park all day. We stopped to get "daddy juice" as needed. Question: How kid friendly is this going to be? Looking online it looks like the whole…See More

"Hey y'all. I understand your frustration. But please bear in mind that there isn't an existing paving technology that can withstand the pounding winter surf, 30 mph winds, icing, plus the rapid freezing and thawing that the path…"

"I see him a few times a month.  He's usually riding up Broadway between Lawrence and wherever it is he's going.  His back rim was warped so bad that I was sure it was just going to collapse on itself.  A charmer it seems!"

Joe Schmoe replied to Aaron Bussey's discussion Bike Shorts Poll
"It depends on the ride. 1-3 miles, jeans, w/boxers.  3-10 miles, running shorts w/boxers.  Anything longer than that and I have to wear bibs or padded shorts, commando, with a body glide applied to the nether regions. I have big giant…"

Joe Schmoe replied to Steve Mac's discussion Hardest section of your commute...
"Glenwood to Ridge, Ridge SE to Broadway.  That section of Ridge requires 20 mph+. There's only one SE bound lane that doesn't turn onto Hollywood, and people drive 40-45 regularly. If I hit the light at Glenwood, then I can almost…"

Joe Schmoe replied to April's discussion Accident story to convince my nephew to wear helmet
"Was commuting to work on a big black MTB w/toe cages, and a front suspension, heading SE on Milwaukee.  The light changed before I got to the intersection, so I stood up and started pumping, just getting up to speed when someone opened their…"

"If they're too small, you can always cut a few pieces of wood, and then seal with painters 60-day tape.  I put mine in last weekend, didn't run them that much until yesterday.  98% humidity is the deal killer for me. I'm…"

Joe Schmoe replied to Jeremy's discussion 43rd ward bike stings
"At the community meeting for the contra-flow bike lanes, Harry Osterman said the same thing (bike stings on Clark). I know we don't like to think it's a problem as a community, but enough cyclists on Clark blow red lights and stop signs…"

Joe Schmoe replied to Dana's discussion Clip-ins vs. Not... Advice?
"I don't use clips, clipless, straps, or any kind of toe cages in the city. Double sided only; if I need to jump off and ditch the bike, or roll away from something when I'm on the ground, the pedals won't stop me. I also hate how they…"
