I kind of let this go along with the other daily unpleasantries that come along with moving about on city streets shared with 2-ton death machines, but got to thinking on a long ride last night that…Continue

Yes, in fact I do grease my lens. Is that bad?

Terry Bloom said… I understand your frustration. I was asked to help out after there was some problems with the original dates and the former producer back in late November(or so i understand)... They didn't want it to be in February in Chicago, but rather the fall, but instead of skipping Chicago after the problems they said they still wanted to try to do the 10th Anniversary show and then hopefully the 2011 tour later this year(fall) instead of having Chicago miss a year.
So I will be in touch, and I do agree that we should coordinate dates, I am from the nonprofit world where I feel more organizations need to combine efforts rather than compete. I appreciate your candidness and I hope we can work together in the future.

That strip on oakley was always what I understood as heart of chicago. I've never heard it called heart of italy, but that would make some sense. I like discussing/defining/debating neighborhood boundaries and am intrigued, but I'm not buying west of ashland as a contemporary 'heart of chicago'. It would be a logical name, what with it being in the middle, but I think an overwhelming (90%+?) majority of residents know it as pilsen (particularly east of hoyne + certainly anywhere near ashland). It seems like either an arcane title or a specific community/neighborhood within another (like hamilton park to englewood, scottsdale to ashburn or palmer square to logan square). I think people get some rights of community definitions though so sure, I'll toss it up under the neighborhood description.

I had been thinking of listing the location as pilsen/littlevillage due our location being on the border, but wouldn't say heart of chicago as I always saw that as a neighborhood/community within pilsen. I've never heard of heart of chicago starting at ashland and am a little curious to where you get that, Damen seems overly generous. I definitely wasn't trying to diss little village, I just id it a lil westernly of us. A lot of neighborhoods have somewhat sliding borders, marquette park/west englewood, brightonpark/gage park, back of the yards and everything around it... I'm comfortable saying working bikes is on a border, but folks I've known in lil village seem to call it pilsen till you start rolling west. I hope that makes some sense to why I wrote 'pilsen'.
