About me:
I am a local Chicagoan and a bike-Lover!

This past spring I initiated a mile-for-mile campaign to improve awareness and support for the field of Facial Prosthetic Rehabilitation, or Anaplastology, which refers to prosthetic restoration of facial anatomy for patients who have suffered disfigurement from cancer, trauma, or congenital origin.

I pledged to cycle 1000 miles to promote my field and inform the general public and health care professionals about its services and treatment options. While cycling all across the Great Lakes region, I've shared the cause with anyone willing to listen, informing individuals of how they can give back by supporting the Walter Spohn Education Fund, established to provide financial support to individuals initiating educational and research projects to advance the field of Anaplastology.

My motivation for this campaign draws primarily from the reality that many people have an unclear understanding of what this type of treatment involves, including many health care professionals. Patients are often not informed about prosthetic rehabilitation as a potential avenue for treatment, and subsequently, those who may benefit from this type of care are often not referred to an anaplastologist. Can you imagine losing your eye to cancer, being a burn victim or a child born with no ear, and going years before learning that you could have received care had you only been told about it?

The Worthwhile Mile aims to change this by sharing information and seeking your help!
