"The biggest variable in randonneuring is the weather. You should be mentally prepared for the expected conditions. You have 7:56 to get to Oregon to the turnaround point for the expected wind conditions on Saturday. If you stop for 30 minutes…"
Some free advice - join RUSA now and start riding the brevets this year, ideally a full series although that may be tough depending on what rides you've done in the past.
Coffee would be nice too....
"Team Badgers Ripped My Fleche is planning to ride again in 2013, departing from Naperville at 6PM on May.17th.
We don't have a video but here is a ride report from last year:
2012 Ride Report - Midwest Fleche.
"Joe and Yao,
Congratulations on completing the ride! It is more challenging than it appears, especially when the weather adds to the challenge.
I am glad to hear that you liked the route. Once you get to Ottawa you are at 70 miles…"
"Jim, don't be too discouraged - the conditions were tough today. I saw Yao and Joe about 20 minutes ahead of you, and they seemed to be doing OK. Joe was actually pretty enthusiastic and sounded confident they would finish under the time limit,…"
"FVP Riders - last minute tips:
Be sure to get your card initialed/stamped including the time at each control.
Riding through Fermilab, come to a full stop at all STOP signs (there are only 4) or risk getting a ticket.
If you like GU and forgot…"
Your route includes a section I've considered for riding into the city - but having driven that section in a car it looks somewhat scary traffic-wise. It's the section where 26th Street jogs under the BNSF tracks twice and morphs…"
"Mike that is very interesting!
Chemung is a tiny town outside of Harvard, right? My fleche route passes through that town. 1987 was before RUSA - who was putting on the rides then and who else was riding? Maybe Doug Slack, Lon Haldeman?
"In my first year I completed the 200K and 300K. Almost completed the 400K, but on the last leg we were trapped in Milton - literally 25 miles from the end - by a series of rolling thunderstorms. If I knew then what I know now I would have waited it…"
"Lee - good point about EBC. I don't know if they are following that practice. It's a long train ride to Naperville and the weekend METRA schedule is sparse. OK if the purpose is to get to the "country" (or the FVP). However if…"
Creation of some populaires is on my list.
I must point out that when you say "we" this includes you and all other rando-oriented cyclists. Anyone can create permanents and populaires. I cannot speak for GLR, but I think GLR already…"
