"The Aurora Metra station is just a few blocks from the southern tip of the Fox River trail.  The Aurora Branch of the IPP stops right around there as well.    What's especially nice about that is that there's a UP-NW metra…"

"I was thinking the same thing. You'll have to remember to bring some Bungee cords, they almost wouldn't let me on but I used a belt to secure the bikes. "

IPP/SALT CREEK TRAIL/GREAT WESTERN TRAIL

Completed a good 60+mile bike ride yesterday starting at salt creek trail and then through the IPP all the way to south Elgin and then back riding through the great western trail as well. It was a long, peaceful, beautiful ride. All the green is staring to turn different colors and if anyone haven't gone through these trails, UR MISSING OUT!

"It is a road bike friendly path of crushed limestone. Just make sure you check your drivetrain after riding on it as too much dust can start to damage your components."

Great Western Trail

I'm looking to somehow ride my bike from Little Village all the way to the north/west suburbs like Elgin. I have been riding in the salt creek trail and I love it...well except for the last portion that travels down York rd. I looked up the great western trail and it has crushed stone...what exactly is crushed stone and would be road bike friendly?
