Thanks for the replies Alan, and your right about the BSA version...not sure if raleigh owned the BSA brand at the time ?... I read somewhere online that there is a nice example in the national cycle museum here (actually in Wales)
And contacted them to confirm/ask for pics ... They have kindly done this and if you let me have an email address I will forward to you...it's a lovely deep yellow colour and I seem to remember it originally being sold as having 'a Sky Blue Highlights'...
All best
Ian

Hello, ... I found a picture of your raleigh lancer on the net and thought I would contact you as I have one too......I think they are pretty rare machines .
Mine is red... 1961 ( according to hub date on the SA AW 3speed, and also original consignment ticket to a shop in Derby uk )...
I think mine is a British market model as it has painted 'nosed' mudguards instead of chrome plated like the US ones I see, and no front rack.
I haven't come across another like it , and raleigh archives dept. had no info at all ...
I am fixing it up to do the Eroica Britannia on Nxt year, and would bet it's the only lance...( although I hope I'd lose that bet!)
I was told a while ago that they were a copy of the shwinn corvette ?

Hope your smart black bike is still going strong.
Kind regards-Ian Gardner

Hi Alan, Thank you!  sometime back you helped me get in touch with Cigdem Tunar in regards to her penny Farth.  I would like to extend to you and your assistance in spreading the word in regards to our Tweed Ride on October 18th...We have 16 children with Cancer that make up our Jr. Board that are really wanting to have a tweed ride.  Our normal rides have between 75-300 people...It is really important to make this event a success due to the one lil boy that really wanted to have one...lost his fight with Cancer last week.  Again please help spread the word!

Thank you Alan for working on the arm bands! It's wonderful to use old tubes for such a great cause!

"Everyone else is doing it so why shouldn't we?" Well if everyone else is doing it, I usually do it ten years too late.

Not this, though!
