When The Chainlink was started in 2008, it was born out of a need among Chicago cyclists. The goal was to create a place to allow Chicago area cyclists to connect, share and learn…a place that was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Since then it’s grown to serve thousands of cyclists in the Chicago area.
The Chainlink is a special place, not only in its uniqueness in our city, but in the way it’s used. Some of you may have come to the site to find out about, for example, social rides. But in doing so, you found out about cycling opportunities you didn’t know about before, such as charity rides, centuries, bike camping, or even racing. Some of you have grown your own groups and rides using the Chainlink as a platform. Some of you come to get questions answered or have found a place to share what you know. Many of you have met friends, riding buddies, girlfriends and boyfriends, husbands and wives. There are many ways to experience The Chainlink community and derive benefit from it.
Since the beginning, the site has been entirely self-funded. It has allowed several benefits, but with a fast-growing community and additional costs, ultimately it’s not a model that’s sustainable.
In the coming years, the goal is to generate enough revenue for the Chainlink to exist without contributions from its members. But in the mean time, any help that you can provide will enable us to cover our costs and provide the services you’ve come to enjoy and rely on.
If you would like to support The Chainlink, there are two ways you can help: you can either make a recurring $5 monthly contribution or a one-time contribution. Your support will help keep The Chainlink sustainable.
As always, thank you for being a part of the community and for allowing us to be a part of your cycling experience in Chicago!
