When The Chainlink was started almost 3 years ago, it was born out of a need among Chicago cyclists. The goal was to create a place to allow Chicago area cyclists to connect, share and learn – a place that was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Since then it’s grown to serve thousands of cyclists in the Chicagoland area.

Since the beginning the site has been entirely self-funded. It has allowed several benefits, but with a fast-growing community and additional costs, ultimately it’s not a model that’s sustainable.

As The Chainlink grows, so do the expenses. Unlike non-profits, there are no sponsors or grants from foundations. The decision was made to make The Chainlink a business entity (vs. becoming a non-profit) to value independence. With no grant strings attached and no non-profit regulations (any of you in non-profits know what we’re talking about!), we’re free to do what we feel is right to serve the community.

The Chainlink is a special place, not only in its uniqueness in our city, but in the way it’s used. Some of you may come to the site to find out about rides, and in doing so, found out about rides and groups you didn’t know of before. Some of you have grown your own groups and rides using the Chainlink as a platform. Some of you come to get questions answered or have found a place to share what you know. Many of you have met friends, neighbors, riding buddies, girlfriends and boyfriends, husbands and wives. There are many ways to experience The Chainlink community and derive benefit from it.

If you would like to support The Chainlink, there are two ways you can help: you can either make a recurring $5 monthly donation or a one-time donation. Your support will help keep The Chainlink sustainable.

As always, thank you for being a part of the community and for allowing us to be a part of your cycling experience in Chicago!
