The Chainlink

2017 Chainlink Ambassador: Zach Schneider

Zach Schneider started off as a BMX dirt jumper and as he got older, turned into a bicycle commuter. While going through his quarter-life crisis he started racing cyclocross and finding other ways to bike at least 100 miles a week. Today he still enjoys biking, racing, and educating other cyclists about bike safety and maintenance. Follow Zach on Twitter @ZKM and Instagram @ZachSchneider

First bike?
The first two-wheeled bike I can remember was when I was 5 years old. I received it from the Easter bunny in the late 80’s.

What inspires you to ride?
I ride to escape.

Any advice for people who are just getting started commuting and/or riding?
No excuses, just go out and ride your bike. Also, wear a helmet and bring lights.

Do you have a cycling bucket list? What’s on the list?
I am signed up for Barry-Roubaix and I am looking forward to my first century.

Favorite places to bike to for a snack, drinks, coffee, or food?
I always enjoy biking to the Botanical Gardens, Three Floyds, and/or tearing it up at Palos. I also enjoy a few secret spots to look over the lake.

How many bikes do you own?
I currently own 3 bikes that are built out and 2 BMX frames. I am looking forward to building out at least one of these frames for Afterglow 2017. I have an All City Nature Boy disc which I raced through out the Chicago Cross Cup, my fixed gear Felt Brougham, and my 26” Giant Xtc2 that I am always down for single-track.
