Be Respectful of the space, staff, volunteers, participants, neighbors and community. No fighting, No stealing, No cursing! Be mindful of the volume of your voice and what you are saying. West Town Bikes is a space where everyone is welcome, make sure your conversations reflect this.

Be Resourceful. Use as little of supplies that are needed, recycle as much as you can and waste as little as possible (including time and space).

Be Responsible. Account for all tools and supplies at workstations during and after use. Notify instructor of any missing or damaged tools or supplies from workstation before use. Arrangements for replacement must be made immediately for any tools that are found damaged, broken or missing. Please clean and keep work areas orderly during and after use.

Use only the tools at the station where you are working. Ask the instructor for use of tools needed other than those at workstations. Return tools immediately after use. Tools Do Not Leave the Shop. Use of power tools should be approved by an instructor and generally not allowed during Open Shop

No Storage is Available. You must take your bicycle, parts, project and any other personal property with you at the end of the event/workshop. Storage is only available for specific use and all storage must be OK’d by the shop manager. West Town Bikes is not responsible for any property left without an arrangement.

Do not leave personal property around or unaccounted for at West Town Bikes. Lock bicycles when parked outside. Do not park bicycles in the shop that are not being worked on. WTB is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

No Bike Riding in the Shop.

Do not block doorways, halls or throughways with bicycles, projects, persons or other objects while at West Town Bikes. No loitering in Ciclo Urbano.

Wear Appropriate Clothing. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty while working in the shop. Closed toe shoes are required while working in the shop and must be worn at all times. Open toe shoes, sandals or flip flops are not allowed. Wear safety gear when needed including safety eyewear when using power tools.

Use of the West Town Bikes computer, stereo and other media equipment is under the descretion of the instructor. Please put CDs back in their cases when finished and close out web accounts and applications after using the computer. West Town Bikes is not responsible for open accounts or files left on the computer.

West Town Bikes is only available during classes, workshops and events or by appointment only. Drop ins are not appreciated and unannounced visitors are not welcome during unscheduled time. Scheduling events at West Town Bikes must be arranged for through the shop manager.

No Sales at West Town Bikes. All sales of parts, accessories and bicycles must be done at the sales shop, Ciclo Urbano. Please do not go through parts bins without instructor’s approval. A service charge will be applied to those who do not adequately return parts to their proper storage. Do not conduct personal business at West Town Bikes! Open your own bike shop if you are going to buy and sell!

All food and packaging must be disposed of in the outside garbage when finished or taken with you upon leaving.

Make A Contribution! A $10 per hour donation is suggested for participating at an event at West Town Bikes unless otherwise noted. Contributions of other sorts are acceptable and should be arranged for with an instructor (volunteers, labor, bikes, parts, supplies and materials are always appreciated). Cotton T-shirts for rags are always needed. Talk with an instructor about volunteering and other ways you can get involved with West Town Bikes!

-------------------------------ABOUT WEST TOWN BIKES --------------------------------------
West Town Bikes is a community bicycle learning workshop. WTB offers bicycle mechanics workshops, youth programs and special events to members of the community. WTB is also used as a creative workspace for special bicycle building, utilitarian human powered design, kinetic art, advocacy projects and all sorts of constructive creation.

The overreaching goals of West Town Bikes are to promote bicycling in the city of Chicago, to educate youth with a focus on under-served populations, and to foster and serve Chicago's growing bicycling community. While maintaining headquarters and a workspace in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, WTB has become a city-wide service provider for youth programs in the city of Chicago.

---------------------------------YOUTH PROGRAMS---------------------------------------------
West Town Bikes had its start in 2004 through the flagship youth program BickerBikes. This earn-a-bike summer program teaches bicycle mechanics in conjunction with safe cycling skills. All of our youth program focus on teaching young men and women independence, professional skills, environmental stewardship and the importance of exercise and good nutrition.

Work on your bike in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Participants share tips and an instructor will be there to help. The instructor's ability to assist you will be limited by time and the total number of participants. Come on out, fix your bike, get some grease on your hands, and ride off with a better bike and more know-how than you had when you arrived!
Please make an appropriate donation for the time you spend working at West Town Bikes. Bicycle mechanics are paid $10 per hour on average at most bike shops. Please keep this in mind considering the amount of time and work you do while at West Town Bikes.
