Soooo, I left all my gear in PDX when I left. Anybody know a place in the city where a girl can pick up some cheap (used) camping gear? I appreciate it!

Hey all, just so you know, Illinois state parks do not allow any alcohol. That said, there is a private camp ground right across the street from the Starved Rock state park which does allow alcohol....or at least there was a private campground there a few years ago.

a close one to start off with this year could be illinois state beach

I made a handy poll to see what weekend works best (assuming it's Sat-Sun?) http://doodle.com/fkvw92qt5m8re7tw

Start of May sounds awesome to me. Any time is a good time to camp.

I like the Starved Rock idea - T.C. O'Rourke and Michael Burton have led expeditions out there in the past. Also, check out Google Maps - Directions with a Wisconsin to Chicago search. It highlights all the park-oriented bike trails. There's a very cool one that starts out from Milwaukee just north of Elston that appears to go all the way to the Skokie Lagoons and then a little farther north it continues up to Lake Forest. It might be a good practice run to see if some of us are ready for the mileage?

I'm pro first weekend of may. it could be the It's Never Too Soon To Be Camping Camping Ride.

I'm also really in favor of using the same word multiple times in one event name.

May 1st I'm out >:( Ciclo Urbanos 1 year party is on that day and it is The National Home Brewers Asc. Big Brew Day... How about mid may?

The first weekend of May (May 1 & 2nd) don't work for me, but that is okay. It looks like our group is getting big enough to support several camping trips.

Illinois Beach is probably the easiest place to get to from Chicago.

I don't think that May is too early... Are you calling it?

As a point of order, I do think that if you do decide to plan a specific trip, then you should start a discussion about that trip to keep things organized.
