Bad link on that Utica-to-Mendota ride.  Try this instead:

Regarding a trip to Starved Rock or the area around it:

Return to Chicago from Mendota on an Illinois Service train, which allows for carry-on bicycles, no need to transport them in a box as checked luggage.

Regarding the trip to the Botanic Garden:

When you get there:

Exit going east, and return on the Green Bay Trail

Exit going west, and return on the Des Plaines River Trail

Also, remember returning on Metra from the Braeside Station IS NOT AN OPTION because bikes aren't allowed on Metra because of the Taste of Chicago currently going on.

Also planning a ride out to Starved Rock State Park for a 2 day ride.

July 5-6 (Tue-Wed). Its approximately 50ish miles to the park. We'd take our time, make various stops and ride about 10 mph average. Camp overnight at the park (I could be convinced to motel it as well but would rather camp). Then ride back the next day.

If you are interested, email me!

Saturday, June 25th, ride to the botanical gardens via North Branch Trail. Would like to start early around 7ish am. Meet up at the start at Devon/Caldwell ride to Botanical Gardens and back. Make various stops. Take it nice and easy. Take some pictures at the Gardens as well. If you are interested in joining me, email me!

Sauganash Trail Ride - including the history of parts of Albany Park, hosted by Ald. Margaret Laurino of the 39th Ward, and a history major graduate of Northeastern Illinois University.

Details:

Short, worthwhile - bring the whole family. It's a slow and easy ride, appropriate for kids.
