that was my favorite NorthSide Mass. Thanks for leading Andrew! Great ride and an excellent group of riders.

The December "Holiday Ride" was beautiful as always.
http://massup.us/nscm/u?d=20121214

1. Having posted the route in advance as usual, I just followed massup.us and ride leading was easy. The few times I missed a turn or ad-libbed, turns out massup.us (Google bike directions actually) were right, due to one-ways and such.  Whereas following me we did one u-turn on a big street and several blocks salmoning. Oh well.
Totaled over 15 miles. Plot at http://massup.us/nscm/r?d=20121214

2. In addition to the usual posting to CriticalMass listserv, FB and TheChainLink, we were also picked up by NewCity and EveryBlock. Even so, and despite non-freezing weather, only seven riders came out. Everyone else is lame.

3. We saw lights and decorations, had great conversations, posted some photos, kept up a decent speed (>7mph), made two boozemart pauses but nobody needed, and got to American Science and Surplus 50 minutes before closing. A few hundred$s were likely spent.

4. Several pals joined us there! One valiant latecomer reported being a mile or two behind us the whole way using massup.us to catch up. That's a recurring report, and "sort of the game" I've joked. But after this ride I've at last added the ability to catchup to Cue points a mass is HEADING for! On SmartPhones MassUp.us can even give you directions to those, shortcutting the mass's path.

5. Finally we headed for Marie's pizza, as recommended by holiday decorations expert Mary Edsy. The place was a mix of class and trash. The decorations were entertainingly gaudily, but the food sub-average. Our waitress (in holiday sweater and xmas jewelry) seemed drinky, but we were serenaded by the ASTONISHINGLY good Gino Fontine trio.

All in all, a beautiful night. Thanx everyone!

Hey all, that was AMAZING as usual. SERIOUSLY, more people should come out. This has been outstanding reliable fun for years.

The new Arcade/Bar was a good ride distance, but I'd expected it to be packed and expensive, and instead it was spacious and FREE PLAY! They had my all-time favorite game, Marble Madness. J+I eventually went on as planned to the "Tentacle Porn" thing at the B1E gallery in Rogers, where Crystal/Presley/BK joined us! We took in the show, then rode back to the arcade, introducing to a Critical Mass for the first time that I know of, LAPS! Social networking, calls, and massup.us were lively, and the "HQ Beercade" I'd hope was talking about the cyclists after closing. There was also a big coincidence with doorguy, really funny t-shirts, bevies of pretty trixies, majority newbies, amazing house specialty mixed drinks, and Jera's cold catching up with her.

So were did the ride go to. My brother & wife decided last minute we should do dinner before they head back down to Fl. Did I miss a nice ride? By the looks of people coming it looked like I missed some good old faces. -((  I hate when that happens!

I've created a Google Map showing several recently discussed route options. Anyone with other specific ideas do tell for addition. Let's vote at the gathering. http://goo.gl/maps/ZiaKP

The NBT is pretty right now. However, it does go very north & then you have issues like return the same route? & you are very west... How about NBT or even the Skokie sculpture garden trail to Wilmette & Bahai Temple (also you're idea) ?  I usually like the NB in the day time for longer rides as you can go pretty far north like The Botanic Gardens & further, & circle back to Sheridan Rd which is very scenic. A ride usually best done during the day but a possibility.

I'm scrapping the photobooths idea for NSCM.  They're all 21+, and several have cover charges Friday.  And ParkRidgeTaste was in July.
I've been wanting to go to the North Branch Trail for many moons (never been).  That's like 9 miles west, then we can follow the river a while.  How about it?
