Dear KM Folks-

An invitation below to host a table at Cyclelogical or you could do a kids bike safety/bike riding demo at this City Dept of Environment supported bike focused event. Great way to reach out to families and promote KM rides. Anyone interested in attending (free bakery eats, connect with other bike organizer enthusiasts, and families to promote KM!)  Starts at 11:00 and ends with a short bike ride at 1:30pm. Hello, Jason!

On April 2nd, from 10:30am-1:00pm, there will be a VERY COOL volunteer-run community bike awareness event at Clarendon Park Community Center (4501 N Clarendon), and I would like to invite you to participate.

This event, Cyclelogical, is designed to help people learn more about bike commuting, cool bike groups, and safety in the hopes that they will become more comfortable with this mode of transit.

We would love to host Kidical Mass as a part of this fair - I'm sure there will be families in attendance who would love to learn more about this great opportunity!

Jason- you mentioned connecting with the Rogers Park ride again this year. Todd had organized most of it and I had helped some since I was living there. Alas, I no longer live there. More importantly...I no longer have my weekends free. Just took a job at a bike shop and will be working both Saturdays and Sundays. I can help get flyers out but likely cannot attend ride day. Same goes for Albany Park and Lincoln Square area...I can help with getting out word ahead of time but likely not able to attend.

Yay (almost) spring! Jason--great to hear from you.  Will we see you at Palmer Square today? I think a KM scheming meeting is called for. When we did the low car/biking with kids workshop at the cycle swap, there was a lot of interest from folks who could not make it. There is a huge demand for this kind of event as well as community building/tip exchanging around biking with kids. I see chances for stickers, flyers and building our web presence.  More later--gotta get ready to mass up!

I have so enjoyed seeing you all continue the rides (and feel not a little bummed that my kids are at the age where they have busy social lives that have pulled their attentions elsewhere). I am hoping we will get back for some KM rides this season, and want to connect with the Rogers Park KM ride too since most of their school friends hail from that neighborhood.

 

I also vanished last fall because I started a new (time consuming) job working for the Chicago Waldorf School. Good news is that in that role I'm perfectly positioned to support/broker a partnership with KM and our school.

There was a lot of talk last year about a "Bike To School" themed KM ride partnering with schools. (But some worries came up from schools about the open, uninsured structure of KM rides).
I am here to tell you all that I'd love to support, promote, co-partner with KM in planning just such a ride in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Our school would be quite willing to work with the KM rides as currently structured and I could add in a lot of promotional weight via our schools channels. Many of our families participated in Palmer Square rides last year, and I think it would have an even broader appeal to connect with a ride in the Rogers Park neighborhood (where our school is located). I also have contacts with other neighborhood schools (like the Global Citizenship Experience High School) that would likely want to participate.  I  can see the value of planning two rides on same day: one for the 6-12yr olds and maybe a teen-focused ride for the High-Schoolers? Does that older age range still feel KM appropriate?

Anyone interested working with me on planning date/route/logistics for such a ride? We would want to promote it to the whole Rogers Park Neighborhood, so looking for folks with connections in the RP hood...

Let me know and lets see where this goes...Looking forward to a super fun, super kidtastic ride opportunity!

 

Also I can offer up my home (with a big meeting table) in Logan Square if we have the gumption to meet for Todd's suggested brainstorming session for upcoming season...

Warm weather will soon be here and the rides will be growing again.  Who would be interested in a brain storming session to hash out plans for the coming season?

 

Any suggestions for a time & place that we can meet?
