Urban Bike Design Presentation!

Come participate in the critique of design concepts our student teams have developed for bike accessories for underserved cyclists in Columbia's Product Design focus.

Teams have been developing new prototypes for urban BMXers, immigrant cyclists, and Latino women cyclists, as part of our annual Urban Bike Project:

The presentation will be Weds Dec. 15, 9 to Noon, at 623 S. Wabash, in Hokin Lecture Hall (room 109 - to the right of the front elevators, and towards the back exit).

We'll have some hot drinks and nosh. Hope to see you there!

Greetings Urban Bike Project Fans & Backers!

Thanks so much to those of you who pledged to our Kickstarter.
Unfortunately, we've fallen far short of our goal, so we won't get the money from your Amazon accounts.

But, seeing as you backers did pledge a generous amount, and because I know you, I'm wondering if I could ask you to back us in private, and we will honor your rewards, just the same. The teams can still use the money that was pledged. I guarantee the teams will get every penny.

Please let me know if you're up for doing this!

Cheers!

Hey, fans,

We have a new update with a sample of what the teams are doing, and links to their project blogs.

Thanks to all you folks who have pledged already. We really appreciate it!

I'm going to invite you all to the final presentation in December. You'll get to offer your critique, and get some nosh, as well ;)
I'll post the details soon.

hi carl! talked to other racketeers about the contest you are willing to run for us to come up with our logo.
We are a bike dance performance group. Gearing up on BMX's and mini-bikes while grooving and trickin all over stage. It's women only but don't discriminate to male groupies. I would love love to see if what your students can come up with.
here's a link to a similar group out in portland.. so you get the jist of what's going on

Five student teams in Product Design at Columbia College Chicago want to offer some good design to the cyclists who are too often ignored in our city.
The teams will be designing practical things for Latino women, immigrants, and urban BMX riders.

We are learning from non-profits and people who live in these communities. Students have already spent several weeks researching people's needs and perceptions, and then will develop realistic solutions. Prototypes will be made and given to individuals free of charge.

Kickstarter is a venue for generating funding for creative projects. You buy a reward designed by our students, we get money for our prototypes. It's that easy!
