Cycling Friends,

Albany Park Bikes, a new youth and community bicycling effort, has an opportunity to receive much-needed financial support by providing light mechanical support to the MB financial/ Active Transportation Alliance "Bike the Drive" coming up on May 30.

We are in need of 2 sets of volunteers:

-3-6 individuals to staff a repair station at one of the exit/access points of the ride course

-6-10 individuals to provide rolling mechanical support

In both cases, your skill level should be adequate to patch or replace a tube, and possibly help with other minor problems such as adjusting or tightening basic bike parts.

More about Albany Park Bikes:

Please contact me at your earliest convenience to let me know you can help!

Sincerely,

Tony Riccardo

Hey All,

I have *FINALLY* finished the layout for the April Cycling Sisters Derailleur. Alex and Willow, I do not know how you guys do/did this for years on end!!!!! I am ready to strangle anyone who walks within 5 feet of me at the moment...

So, that said, the freakin' thing is done.
*PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help the Cycling Sisters out by printing copies and assembling them.*
There are four sheets of 8.5 x 11" layouts which, when double sided copied, work out to two sheets of paper printed on front and back. Assembly instructions are provided on the CCM website (comments section, see the link below).

The Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals announces:

Writing Women Back into Bicycling: Changing Transportation Culture to Encourage More Women to Cycle More Places More Often

Free webinar and cycling survey

While it is an exciting time in the U.S. as many new bicycling projects are being installed, women continue to participate in bicycling at lower rates than men.  We are conducting a survey of women and girls  to hear from them about the many possible factors influencing their cycling decisions.  We are opening a dialog on why women and girls are cycling less and what would encourage them to cycle more.

The public is invited to attend the free webinar on women and cycling on March 31, 2010 (3:00 p.m. Eastern time) or view it as an archived presentation later.  Learn about the barriers, successes, international examples and ideas about what you can do. Register today for free webinar: http://www.apbp.org/events/event_details.asp?id=100124

. Space is limited.

Take the survey (open until May 15, 2010 – women and girls only please) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/womencycling. We would like to hear from non-cyclists as well as current and past cyclists.  Survey results will be shared during the webinar. Final results available after May 15th (National Bike Month)

Okay Gals,

APRIL is the month for the ever-popular Cycling Sisters issue of the _Derailleur_ this year (May is going to the World Naked Bike Ride).

We need articles, thoughts, poetry, photos, art, random quotes, tips...
WHAT HAVE YOU!

Food for thought:
Why do you bike?
What do you love/hate about biking? bikes? bike people?
When you think about the first time you rode a bike, what word comes to mind?
Who inspires you in your bikeliness?
What is the coolest thing you've ever seen a woman do with/on/to a bicycle?
If you had your fantasy bike, what would it look like?
What would you do to improve cycling in Chicago?
What would you do to encourage more women to bike?
What makes you roar when on a bike?
What resources to you want to share with your fellow cyclists?

Please, send your work my way. Or choose to grab the cow by the horns and do it yourself.
I am HAPPY to pass this duty on to an inspired chica. Or chicas.

Maybe we could have a edit night at someplace that can host several people and computers??

I might be able to help... I'll be done with school in March, and depending on my work situation I might have some free time. I do have some paper to donate to the cause though... it's not a whole lot, but more than we will use at home- the better part of a package of brightly colored assorted printer paper (not sure how many sheets but I can check when I get home)- would be good for covers if they don't need to be heavy-weight. Otherwise, it's probably going to west town for fliers. :-) Let me know if you want it, and how to get it to ya!
Count me in for the foraging ride!

Hi. I want to help with the May issue. Not too much experience putting out zines, but ideas and time I've got.
Can we have a meeting? Jane - when are you free? Who else is planning to work on it?
Also it would help me, and probably be fun and interesting for me, to read through some archived Derailleurs. Would West Town be a good place to find some old ones?

Conceived by composer Mark Messing, the band, whose name comes from the Italian for "crazy cow," has been performing in and around the Chicago area since 2005. Their repertoire ranges from Balkan-brass to covers of 60's television show themes as well as themes from Shostakovich and Bartok. They have performed nationally at many well known venues and concerts including McCarren Park Pool, True/False Film Festival, Looptopia, Lollapalooza, Rothbury Music Festival, Tour de Fat, and were featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 2006.

Detholz! There is a subterranean region between the Sacred and the Profane -- a murky swampland of unknown size and scope, crawling with crooked barkers, piggish gluttons, depressive religious fanatics, murderous cowboy crusaders, elderly fifth-stage alcoholics and defrocked addict priests...to name a few. This baleful Bayou from Beyond is the setting for Detholz! newest and most bloody album to date, Death to the Traitor (ETA Fall 2009). A sister album to 2006's Cast Out Devils, which chronicles a loss of faith in the Lands of Party, Death to the Traitor traces oneParty-Pilgrim's Regress back to faith, a return journey fraught with unknown pitfalls and frightening characters along the way. Following a controversial performance at the 2003 Cornerstone Music Festival, Detholz! was featured in the critically acclaimed documentary Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music, which led to an invitation to join Wilco on their Ghost is Born tour. Detholz! has also been privileged to tour and play with bands such as Danielson Familie, Weird War, Electric Six, Radio 4 and The French Kicks. Individually, members have written, recorded and toured with artists such as Mavis Staples & The Staples Singers, Bobby Conn, and Baby Teeth. Detholz! w/ Mucca Pazz @ Jackhammers
