Hey friends, if anyone has a strong desire, Break the Gridlock owns the Cycling Sisters domain name and would like to pass it along to an administrator or two who will maintain it. The last post on the site is from 2008 but it's got a lot of wonderful history in its archives so it would be a shame to see it deactivated. Shoot me a message if you think you could put the site to good use.

Anyone is up for Door County Century this Sunday 09/09? I'm driving there early Sat and doing 70 miles.

Hello Ladies, I hope you'll all join me for a Ride next Wednesday - the annual Ride of Silence!

In Chicago, cyclists will gather at Daley Plaza beginning at 6pm for a 7pm departure to ride past the site of several ghost bikes, memorials to cyclists at the sites of fatal crashes. In Evanston, cyclists will gather at 7pm at the Chandler Neuberger Center between Lincoln and Central just west of Ridge. More information on all local RoS events at www.rideofsilence.org/chicago.

We ride in silence on this one night each year with cyclists around the world to silently assert our right to share the road and honor those no longer riding with us. We make a "loud" statement to motorists in communities worldwide. The Ride of Silence serves as a rally that advocates for the living friends and family of victims, as well as a celebration of those who incorporate the bicycle into their lifestyle. We ride slowly and silently in hope to end the tragedy on our roads.

Hello Ladies!

This month's brunch will be in Logan Square at Revoluation Brewing at 11:00 a.m.  We went there last summer and it was my favorite brunch ever.  Great beermosa.  :)

Please RSVP so I will know how big a table we will need.

Free Webinar: Empowering Women to Bicycle for Transportation

Dear Julie,

This week, at the 2012 National Bike Summit, the Alliance and theAssociation of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals hosted the first-ever National Women Cycling Forum — and it was a huge success. More than 200 people attended the gathering, and the diverse panel of women from advocacy, history, diplomacy, racing, engineering and retail inspired and informed us with their unique experiences and insight.

We hope to continue that conversation with a free webinar on "Empowering Women to Bicycle for Transportation" on Wednesday, March 28th at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Since APBP inaugurated the Women Cycling Project in 2010, thousands of women have participated. This year's webinar highlights programs and approaches that encourage women to bicycle on a more regular basis. Learn about Cycles for Change, the Minneapolis program that educates and empowers women of various cultures to use bicycles as transportation; Birmingham’s Magic City Cycle Chix, whose mission is to encourage women to mountain bike; and more. 

The webinar will also include a brief update on these topics:

• Outcomes of the National Women Cycling Forum
• Plans for the interactive Women Cycling website
• Update on transportation legislation in Congress

And another point....there are so many fabulous blogs written by women riders in Chicago and around the world that it will be difficult to not overlap some of the work that those folks are doing.  A cycling sisters site could also be a list of blog to different sites that already have the resources written out...and we could add a calendar of differen women cycling events in Chicago.  That could even be done with an embedded google map, which would require very little coding on the administrators part.
