Ride of Silence - May 21, 2014 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2014 Chicago Ride Of Silence.

Our route in 2013 included 6 ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

DATE: May 21, 2014 (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)
TIME: Gather at 6:00 pm; Depart at 6:30pm
WHERE: Hundreds of locations world wide; Eternal Flame (Daley Plaza) in Chicago
One day. One Time. World wide.

In 2011 Chicagoland Ride of Silence locations included: Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Evanston, Joliet, and Peoria.

Wherever you ride, we ride in unity.

Sara. .. great post, especially "I was hesitant to go on this ride because I knew it would be a somber affair. I’m glad that I did the ride, for so many reasons.  So many reasons that are impossible to convey here.  Life is short.  Way to f-ing short."

I think so many still stay away from this ride in Chicago because of the somber note attached to it. But it's not somber.... as Brent Cohrs said in his blog, "Silence is sobering."

I know it's a wake-up call for me each year. And - a very touching reminder of just how tight our bike community is. We are never alone. Thanks for riding with us.

13 riders in Evanston.  Short on numbers long on signficance.  It was a very moving event for those of us who ignored the warning of weather and the siren of basketball. A report was submitted to the ROS page.

Ride reports are already streaming in. At best - I got a count of 126 riders in Chicago.... and just found out Peoria had 136.

Peoria outdid Chicago in #s? wow!
