I just signed up for the 200 and the 300 i am really looking forward to it.
Comment by ilter on February 17, 2013 at 11:33am kiltedcelt, I would say a likely scenario for the first 200K involves a not-so-good sleep in Super8, excitement at the start, riding at a pace you cannot sustain, riding alone half the time, conversations with one or two total strangers on topics you would not have anticipated, bonking at some point & a really slow final leg & questioning whether you would do this again. The likely scenario for the second 200K is more fun :)
Comment by Bill W. on February 16, 2013 at 8:25am hi kiltedcelt...the GLR is great but once you start riding in brevets you learn that you don't need to ride for a 'reason'. Don't get me wrong...these are a blast but just going out and riding on your own is equally as rewarding and challenging. Also, riding in the tri-state areas various bike club's 'annual' bike rides is another option. Though somewhat costly, this gives you a fair amount of riding and is somewhat 'pampered'. Start by using this web site then continue to google.... http://www.mikebentley.com/bike/ilrides.htm and of course ...http://glrrando.org/. http://www.chicagocyclingclub.org/ is another source as well. I hope this helps and hope to see you out and about!!!!
Comment by kiltedcelt on February 15, 2013 at 11:34pm So, what should a guy look for as far as getting into doing some Randos within the greater Chicago area? I did the North Shore Century last year and didn't find it particularly difficult, so I'm kinda eying Randos as a way to get in some long rides with the companionship of other riders.
Comment by ilter on January 24, 2013 at 10:01pm That`s all I need for now, thank you for the quick response!
Comment by Dan Diehn on January 24, 2013 at 9:00pm We haven't established a firm deadline for submitting a route yet. If you were to get your route to me by May 1st, you would be in good shape. An exact cue sheet is not required. However, I would like to review your proposed route to make sure that it generally complies with the rules. Identifying the controls is necessary. (last year I approved most intermediate controls as "any business in town X" unless otherwise needed to prevent a shortcut). Hopefully, this addresses your questions. If not, feel free to follow up or check the RUSA website for detailed rules.
Comment by ilter on January 24, 2013 at 8:15pm Hi Dan,
What is the deadline to submit a fleche route? Also, do we submit the exact route or the checkpoint locations?
Comment by Lanterne Rouge on January 21, 2013 at 4:56pm A fleche sounds so awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed reading those ride reports.
Comment by Dan Diehn on January 20, 2013 at 6:49pm This year's version of the Fleche will be very similar to last years. The finish will be at the Wintergreen Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The Minnesota Randonneurs are really hoping that this event will become a fixture on the annual calendar of randonneurs in the Upper Midwest. The event will be featured in an article in the next issue of the RUSA magazine. I will be serving as Coordinator of the event this year and would be very excited to see lots of GLR riders participate in this fun and unique event. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
