Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

Take Metra to Crystal Lake. Easy drive from there and there may be some folks in the area doing this when you want to. I am only 1/4 mile from Pingree rd station.  Depends on my work schedule when I will ride but I will do at least one 200K.

I might do one or two of the 200k rides in late May or June (I doubt I'll be in good enough shape by early May). I'd be interested if someone was looking to form a car pool headed up from the city for one of those rides. The idea of having to rent a car to go on a bike ride sort of kills the Delavan rides for me.

So, what are everybody's plans this year? I'm hoping to do a 200k brevet with Great Lakes, and possibly a 300k. Tried to get some long rides in with my friend this winter, but it's been difficult since Christmas. For those who have done this before, when do you start your serious preparation? I've only done one non-commute ride since New Years, and that was only 45 miles.

Many thanks, Eric, for the GPX file for the 600K.

There is now a GPX file for the 600K brevet. It's labelled as a Draft but I just verified that the route follows the track so I'm pretty confident that it will work OK. Remember the cue sheet handed out on the day of the ride is always the final authority, the GPS is just a navigational aid. Please let me know how well the GPX files work.

It's great to see GPS files for GLR routes.  Is there any chance that there will be one ready for this Saturday's 600K?

Another resource for those with GPS devices is here:

GLR GPX files

There you will find GPX files containing both routes and tracks, along with suggested settings for your GPS device.

Feedback appreciated from anyone who uses these files.

Hello everyone,

I've created a Google spreadsheet with the GLR 400 km cue sheet data at: GLR 400 km Spreadsheet

The route is available on Google maps at: GLR 400 km route

and on Map My Ride at: MMR GLR 400 km route

As always, this information is for reference only and is subject to change, official route will be provided at registration.

I hope this information is helpful, I'd appreciate it if you'd notify me of any errors or omissions. Thanks!
