World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike (or other person powered) event where participants ride en masse for the dual purpose of bringing attention to people powered transport and promoting positive body image. For a great overview see WikiPedia.

The event is bare-as-you-dare; anything from body paint to underwear to fanciful costumes are encouraged. Due to legal restrictions in Chicago, full frontal nudity is at your own risk, but large numbers of participants do go all out. Large-scale body painting is typically available pre-ride, and personal expression is encouraged. Cyclists familiar with Critical Mass (which is massive in Chicago) can simply see this as a special clothing optional additional June mass.

Chicago's past events included many hundreds of cyclist and numerous inline skaters, and covered over a dozen miles of high visibility city areas. In 2008 the 5th annual event drew a staggering 1700 riders! Blessed by decent summer weather in a great cycling city, the event has grown into a fantastic rolling celebration, with similarities to other major alternative parades world-wide. Participants often describe it as a transcendent group experience, personally transforming, and beyond superlative.

This CL group is intended for unmoderated chatter and thread following. For announcements make sure to also join the mailing list at http://ChicagoNakedRide.org

That article is not worth the time it takes to comment and doing so will only lend credibility to the author and their message.

NewCity Magazine just published a lengthy article "Godiva’s Only a Chocolate- Skeptical reflections on Chicago’s Naked Bike Ride"

I found it bitter and grouchy, littered with basic inaccuracies, faulty assumptions, and gross generalizations. Typical cager rage. Even the fundamental perspective is comically flawed, that the writer was delayed by narcissists while driving his Buick back from a Green party meeting. It's sad that NewCity would publish such tripe, when they could have asked any actual participant for a story of beauty.

Wish I could get to Madison, maybe next year!

BOTH primary mass count video acquisitions are incomplete, one because the mass stalled, the other missed maybe half because of split pack. Spectator vids are mostly at roundabouts, also not valid. We MAY not get an exact count this year. Next year, we MUST get a stationary overhead video, from Fullerton train platform for example. I'll continue monitoring, and may ask police opinion. Rough guess is same as last year or slightly bigger. So maybe 1200-1400. Weather forecast probably had large impact on turnout, but ultimately was clear. So we must also educate riders that it always sprinkles a bit. Any input on this year's count is welcome.

Do we have a ride count in the works for this year? (in Chicago)

Madison WI naked ride THIS SATURDAY
Madison Wisconsin is having their first World Naked Bike Ride THIS SATURDAY (June 19th).
Significant turnout expected.

"Holy FS! Wisconsin is about to have its first-ever WNBR! And nobody has to miss it, because it's a week after the Chicago ride! Have your birthday suit cleaned and pressed, and get ready to join your cheesehead neighbors to the north to celebrate with all the glory of naked two-wheel sanity."

"Don't forget your sunscreen! That's all you'll need to wear!
Oil independence and body acceptance are the big ideas, and we plan to embrace them across a good distance of the city.
Keep an eye on this site for details. Right now we're planning to roll out at 11:00 AM, with coffee and socializing before that.
To get involved, join the Yahoo! group."

For sure lotsa sprints. ;-) In fairness next time we'll punch the girls and guys in the face for grabbing. ;-)

I did ask the camera dude move to the side, but I was near the back of the group, he pointed it down and moved. There were a group of teens on Michigan Ave ,one hopped over those chain barriers and grabbed some girls behind. I gave him an earful but she just gave him the finger. I saw at least 3 or 4 runners who stripped off and joined us. There were several rowdy women spectators that were very aggressive, one slapping at least 4 or 5 guys butts pretty hard while we were stopped at the first BP. All in all it was a lot of fun, and a lot of work riding wise, I must have done 20 wind sprints from back to front.
