Please:

-start a separate discussion to collect information on, discuss, and plan for each victim.

-take the time, if possible, to assist by helping track down missing information or details.

-try to post information to pertinent discussions rather than to the comment wall, so we can find it down the road, or otherwise stated, avoid posting discussion to the comment wall for which there is a discussion thread started.

-feel free to add past victims who were never memorialized, or start discussions about existing ghost bikes and/or their victims.

Question concerning maintenance 4 Replies

Hello everyone,     I was wondering if permission is needed to do a little maintenance/upkeep on an already existing Ghost Bike.  I don't want to change anything about it, just clean around it, add a new coat of paint, maybe add some flowers. …Continue

2010 route posted: http://www.rideofsilence.org/chicago/index_2010.html

Open to route modifications if it can be done safely and without adding more mileage.

The only new bike pending within city limits is for Pershing.

No urgency for the ROS.

I will announce a few dates for fixing up the bikes on the ROS route.

Is last year's route posted somewhere?
Has anyone seen Jepson's bike lately? I got a few disturbing calls from that alderman's office about it.

this year's ROS route will likely not vary from last year. any objections to keeping it the same in 2011?

It's a thought, to get something new up before the ride of silence, mere weeks away.

Depending on work scheduling I am interested.

Anyone interested in collaborating on getting some maintenance rides and build days set up?

Comment by h' Zerocats on January 6, 2011 at 10:30pm

Time to start getting some GB-related events in the calendar.

A maintenance ride or two, a build day or two.

Ideally at least a few weeks after the Chicago Cycle Swap (2/26).

Sundays tend to work best for me.

If someone wants to make the initial contact about the bikes in pilsen. I can pick up and store them. How many bikes are there?
Comment by Andrew Bedno on November 20, 2010 at 5:54pm
I started a thread on the expressway story. After the thaw sounds ideal.

Wow, we need the Pilsen bikes. I saw photos. I could possibly contact and pickup and store. But we're far north, and short on space. SOMEONE CLOSER PLEASE? Maybe they can just keep 'em until called upon.

3. Let's act on some of the recent months' victims (forumed above). Further, a fellow car-hater recently argued that even the male killed a few months back crossing an expressway (not forumed above) should be a candidate, citing that monstrous scar of tar with no better crossing options as the cause, not foolhardiness.

I agree. The Chicago that should have been built would not feature probable death lurking around every corner upon a momentary lapse of judgement (although we don't know why the cyclist was there).
The next step would be to gather information and start a thread for that victim.

Any initiative you would like to take encouraged/supported; In my mind we were going to have a flurry of preparations and placings around March/April of next year in advance of the Ride of Silence and after snowbanks and plows are a placement consideration, since bike winter stuff is going to be monopolizing my free time until the end of February-- but my participation is not needed.

FYI the bikes that were on display at the Pilsen Arts Society Ofreda were offered to us-- feel free to make that connection.
