The Chainlink

Working Bikes has a bunch of ballooners, middlweights, and Sting-Rays that we're auctioning off April 1st.  By "a bunch of" I mean about 120 or so from the 1950's, '60s and '70's.

Working Bikes receives donations of your previously used bicycles and we ship them to projects in developing countries in Africa, Central America and South America.  We ship mountain bikes and cruisers.  We hold onto skinny tire bikes to sell in our storefront since they are more suitable to Chicago and less suitable to Ghana, Tanzania, Angola, Guatemala etc, etc.  Those hold onto we sell at our storefront at 2434 S. Western in Chicago to pay our rent, shipping costs, light, heat, and employees.

Over the years (maybe 12 of them!) we've collected a bunch of bikes old bikes that have wouldn't do in the developing world, and we don't have the time to accurately restore to 1955 specifications.

What is today's market price for a Hawthorn Ballooner from the mid fifties?  I don't know either.  Instead of guessing, we'll let the public decide.  We're putting these bikes out with low starting bids with the dream that they will all be released to your loving care this Sunday.

It's a silent auction, so the bikes will be for bid simultaneously from 9:00 and ending promptly at 11:00.  Find a bike, fall in love, place your bid on the sheet and eye it jealously until the bidding ends.  If you love it you'll win it.

Working Bikes, 2434 S. Western Avenue, Chicago IL.  Starts at 9:00, Ends at 11:00.

Cash and credit cards are accepted. Pictures and more pictures are here:  www.workingbikes.org/auction

We'll be there Sunday morning with the Ace of Clubs bike as well.  If you can't afford to bid on a bike maybe you can afford a fiver for some raffle tickets.  Either way Working Bikes benefits.
