The Chainlink

Traffic 'round these parts dropped off pretty dramatically a few weeks ago... hard to tell from the "I rode today" thread who's still riding, as one would have to conclude that Gene is the only one out there most days by reading it....

Who's sticking it out and plans to continue to ride pretty much every day regardless of weather?

I ride regularly during the winter, although my commute to work is walkable. However, it's not as easy to walk for groceries or to my Hebrew class, so I will bike to those. Hope that the roads stay clear on Mondays, for that matter!

Plan to ride all winter unless street conditions become too dangerous.  If it's anything like last winter, that means one, maybe two days that I won't ride all the way downtown (I will ride my beater to Metra instead).

I made it all through last winter but have been off the bike for a few months and had a terribly cold and unpleasant ride last night. I think I need to build my cold tolerance back up...

If they plow my routes and trails reasonably well, I keep riding. If they don't, I take transit and limit myself to short runs around the neighborhood. My tires are not really substantial enough to handle hard-pack and icy slush well at all. But it feels very good to ride in the chill.

i have been non-stop for decades, not gonna stop till 79 happens agin. no joke, ride to live... its all bought the right gear to match the die hard spirit, i truly get off on being completely comfortable in the worst conditions...

Yes. Going into 4th year.

Beats the Hell out of the Red Line!

I also noticed that I can shave ~5 minutes of my 10.5 miles morning commute when it's cooler.

Only saw about five other riders today. 6 miles of bliss.

Today was the first day my face actually got cold en route.

It was pretty empty along the lake this morning though I saw most of the usual suspects, like the recumbent rider and the lady on roller blades.

I think I saw most of the usual suspects on my side street route today.  Tomorrow might require the winter helmet and another layer of socks.

I'm coming off ACL surgery and won't be able to ride again until January at the earliest. You can bet your sweet bippy I'm going to be out there as soon as I can, and when I am, I'm going to announce it here.

Rolled out this morning to take the kid to Caribou for oatmeal before school, woop woop livin it up
