Congratulations Oboi!! What wonderful news and a well-deserved honor.

"The White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation next week will honor Chicago bicycle advocate Olatunji Oboi Reed, who last year co-founded Slow Roll Chicago, a group that organizes local bike rides as a way of reducing crime, encouraging healthy lifestyles and revitalizing neighborhoods.

"Reed, 41, is among 11 people from across the country who were chosen for creating unique transportation initiatives that are transforming their communities. When he received news of the award about two weeks ago, Reed said he was surprised and humbled.

"'It means a lot for our movement,' he said. 'The recognition says to the people who ride with us, and the community leaders we work with, that we are serious about our work and that we believe in the transformative power of bikes. And it says that the White House now recognizes this. That's a huge deal.'"
