With so much attention on vehicles parked in bike lanes, WBEZ decided to look at this common complaint among both veteran and newbie bicyclists. We wondered: Where in the city do vehicles get ticketed the most for parking in bike lanes, a penalty that comes with a $150 fine? And do those areas match with the neighborhoods with the most complaints?

Hey Gopher!

I'm near UIC.  Wanna meet?  I'd like to show you what I'm working on and get your insights.

I tried to test 311 today.  There was a car parked in the northbound bike lane at 1111 N Wells.  After I entered the address on the 311 site in the browser on my phone, the screen went blank.  On my home laptop, there is an opportunity to enter more information.

Is the Chicago Works app actually affiliated with 311?  Is that an official city app?

The 311 site has been flaky the past few days.

No, the Chicago Works app is not affiliated with the city's 311 website. Based on the app's reviews, it looks fairly poorly written.

Thanks to the folks reaching out to the author of the article regarding the incomplete and misleading data. They should really not be overlaying 50 complaints at one spot as the same looking dot that would result from one complaint at one spot. I'm disappointed that the author has not updated the article accordingly, although at least he has responded to those who have reached out.

Agreed. Besides the overlaying data, the author should clearly state when he requested the data, and what date range it covers. Having an article dated in late August using a data file that excludes 2 key summer months is very misleading.

Agreed, the 2 months of prime bike riding not being included is a bit of a miss.  Most people probably wouldn't piece that together.  I'm glad you did.

Unfortunately, the overlaying of data is an automated process.  It's a downfall of using an addresses to report.  I've also plotted the data on a map and they did the same thing.  I see 30 complaints as soon as I click on the address @Argonne69 is mentioning.
