Re sunscreens and Vitamin D: Well-known facts that
1) Those of us in northern latitudes such as Chicago do not get sufficient sunlight to produce minimal Vitamin D levels, and thus risk osteoporosis and weak bones
2) Sunscreens further inhibit the skin's ability to generate natural Vitamin D from sunlight.
Therefore (1) use no sunscreens or those with LOW spf values, (2) take supplemental Vitamin D as much as 5000 IU daily, and (3) consider adding weight-bearing exercise to your daily regimen.
